Club versus Province
No – not that old debate. I think that was settled many years ago.
I’m just wondering if anyone else gets pssed off by the change in terminology. Increasingly Ulster are referred to as a ‘club’, not just by Sky pundits and English journalists, but by those within the organisation. Today’s press have both Treadwell and Kiss talking about ‘the club’.
Now I know in real terms we are a club in the same way that the English PLCs are clubs and the French millionaires’ play-things are clubs, but have we lost something by admitting it to ourselves? Does it encourage the right mind-set in our players? Are they conscious they are playing representative rugby when they pull on that white shirt They are representing me (for one). I don’t support a club, I belong to a province!
I’d like to think the Ulstermen on the team have some understanding of what I’m talking about, but do the honoury Ulstermen and the hired hands? Would it help if they did?
Maybe I’m a sentimental old fool – Opinions please.

Similarly it *is* Kingspan Stadium, but I prefer to hold on to Ravenhill.

Province for me. I think it engenders and sense of being, purpose and identity that a club doesn't.

Re: Club versus Province
Province. It implies an attachment to place and people that is particularly appreciated by the exiles such as myself.
I can understand and forgive non-natives using the term "club" though I hope they learn not to once bedded in.

Of course it's Province, although I don't think "cap" is an appropriate term now that non bona fida Ulstermen are playing.
