WHAT IF A UKRAINIAN REFUGEE PLAYS FOR ULSTER? WILL THIS BE ACCEPTABLE?Big-al wrote:what?Dave wrote: ↑Tue May 14, 2024 10:47 pmWhat if a Ukrainian (or similar) refugee plays for Ulster? Will this be acceptable?Big-al wrote:Why?
Almost half of them come from Leinster. Which is worrying.
I don’t want to support a team of Leinster men. If I did, would it not be worthwhile travelling to the RDS every other week instead?

They better be good, for they will be taking up a NIQ spot.

If one can believe the online gossip, we were trying to sign Munster Schools Cup winning captain and number 8 Eanna McCarthy but he’s joining Connacht.

Fly half right?
He’s actually Austrian I believe so Big-Al could have got behind him.

I look at taking Leinster based players the same way. We give them a better life up here.Big-al wrote:

He could live directly on the Malone golf course, specifically on the green at the 9th.justinr73 wrote:Ha ha.DodgyEverything wrote: ↑Wed May 15, 2024 9:33 am Was also rumblings about Caspar Gabriel, but with a name like that you legally can't live outside D4

Re: Any word on the Academy?
Marcus Rea won't be involved with the senior team against Leinster then
Re: Any word on the Academy?
Bit of a mish mash of a team. Marcus rea is 26 and playing with school boys. What’s the point?
Re: Any word on the Academy?
Must be using Max Deegan’s agent as has been touted around every province at this point! Wouldn’t make much sense when both McKillop & Ward already joining. Backrow stocks look good with those guys joining Stevens, McNabney, McLoughlin & Crothers with some good younger guys in the pathways also.
Outhalf the real area of need so good to see Murphy & De Klerk brought in.
Re: Any word on the Academy?
The Rea selection makes no sense unless for another purpose - fitness?
I think it’s great including prominent schoolboys in these squads - gives them invaluable experience with academy & development players & the environment to see can they step in & up.
Re: Any word on the Academy?
I was at the game at Bedford Blues in 2018.
Marcus Rea was excellent for half an hour before going off injured.
It remains the best thirty minutes I’ve seen him play.

Re: Any word on the Academy?
I agree on your comment about schoolboys, but the timing is well off here. These guys will all have exams and while they are within their rights to say no, and should be saying no at this point, it does send the wrong message from Ulster Rugby IMO.
No reason not to select them, just poor timing.
Re: Any word on the Academy?
Timing not ideal but for most exams only really starting in a couple of weeks & believe Ulster will have flagged the game a number of weeks back to individuals to see if they wanted to be involved & to give them a chance to plan study around if they did.UlsterAreBrill wrote: ↑Wed May 15, 2024 11:58 amI agree on your comment about schoolboys, but the timing is well off here.
