Ideas for No6
Any thoughts on who should play 6? I'd go for Diack, I think he's been brilliant this year, gets about the pitch, great in the line out and can score tries. I'm a big fan of Henderson also but I think that if he gives away too many penalties Farrell will punish us.

Hmmm, struggling with this one tbh. Do we start with Williams/ Diack/ Henry, then sub on Hendo and Wilson to close it down, or start Hendo/ Wilson/ Chad, and vice versa?
Starts must be based on:
1. Match fitness- Diack plus Williams plus Chad as most match fit?
2. Impact- play it cagey to start, or go for broke/ get in their faces and take it to them? Or go for broke, then close it down if we're in the lead?
Cagey/ controlled= Diack/ Wilson/ Chad
Broke= Hendo/ Williams/ Chad.
Also, choice of 8 depends on if we think we can take their scrum. Our scrum under pressure- Wilson.
Us going forward- Williams or Wilson.
Gut is he'll start Diack/ Williams/ Chad.
But I'd love them to be looking at Hendo and Williams coming on with 30 to go, and the game opening up..... a fresh Hendo and Willaims charging pell mell at Farrell and their midfield...
Diack is a great linking 6, with super hands, but not particularly offensive in the tackle. If we're going to move their pack around, Diack then.
Ultimately, fecked if I know...

Think he might go Diack-Chad-Williams again.
Diack's experience could be crucial, and there's that lingering doubt about Henderson's discipline. As much as I think the kid is a fantastic player, I just get the feeling Diack's "reliability" may get him the call this time.

I believe it to be a myth that Henderson gives away a LOT of penalties. Yellow cards maybe but he isn't the worst penalty offender this season from my prospective and Diack gives away a his fair share. Williams and Henry have to start, and I would probably go for Diack as, when Williams comes off, which he inevitably will, another decent ball carrier would need to come on. I would have no qualms with Hendo starting either. Will be an interesting call. I think its a week or two too soon for Roger perhaps.MCBwinwinwin wrote:Any thoughts on who should play 6? Re: Ideas for No6
In fairness, the Diack, Williams, Chad combo working magnificently on Saturday, so it could be steady as you are, especially if we're going to move it. If we get far enough ahead, close it down. Sarries dont score a lot of tries (I hope!)
The penalty comments are justifed imo, as Farrell will be looking to put us to the sword with their pressure plays.
Will be interesting to see how Poite refs the scrums. If we get him on side, (and he's a Frenchie,) it could get interesting, a la Thomond..

As much as I feel Robbie put in one great shift at the weekend, I would prefer Henderson as he is more dynamic going forward.
However Robbie was so sound at the weekend I believe he will be rewarded with a start. Also that Henderson gives more of an impact of the bench.
Just glad it's not us muppets on this board making the decisions!

Re: Ideas for No6
Heard from different people that Anscombe is a big fan of Diack, I reckon he will play 6 with Wilson 8. Henderson, and to a lesser extent, Williams, make too many mistakes which could be really costly in a game like this. Only if we are really confident that we will win, I would start Williams/Hendo.

Surprised that Fermain allows this thread

Re: Ideas for No6
I reckon Williams will start, the Sarries have a Burger in their back row....munch,munch
Re: Ideas for No6
That's the aggressive choice and if that 3 played to their full potential as a back row I'm not sure the Saracens would cope. Breaking their defence down will be about breaking the line with off loads and quick ball a la Last Saturday in Dublin.bazzaj wrote:+1Big-al wrote:6.Henderson 7.Henry 8.Williams

Re: Ideas for No6
Diack has scored how many tries this season for us?....
I suspect if it ain't broke, MA won't try to fix it.
And another thing.. Diack is a great line out option which we seem to have overlooked. Against a decent Sarries L.O. We need all the advantages we can get...
Looks like I've talked myself around to Diack/ Williams/ Chad to start then... sorted
There's also our secret weapon MacCoomash, according to Barnsey on Sky....

Henderson is also an excellent lineout option at the tail and has a few extra inches of height also. Although I do agree with your starting selection. Its important for us all not to get bogged down with who is actually starting as the bench is such an important part of the 80 mins these days. Henderson would provide terrific impact.CIMANFOREVER wrote:Diack has scored how many tries this season for us?....

Re: Ideas for No6
IMPACT players is something I like to bark on about
You need a big start, and once FNW has eaten his Burger, then you bring on the next level of IMPACT, in Hendo
So I would start Diack, Williams and Thierry
With Hendo and Sarge on the bench with Lewis missing out
Wish beagle had been up to speed recently, would love to see him skin Schalk Britz for the match winning try
