I might be onto something this week with a few thinking same way as me on the 3 hooker debate

Disagree about Varley. I think hek's a pretty hard man and now a good hooker although it took him a while to get there.

Now, now Rooster. You said last week that Ulster couldn't select Jackson BECAUSE he was playing for the U20s. That turnt out to be wrong as the provinces are ahead of the U20s in the selection stakes. :salut: :stir:

No it didn't turn out wrong as Jackson was selected as captain for U20 side and that is why he wouldn't be selected for Ulster, yes they could over rule the Ireland selectors but that would be similar to playing Russian roulette with a loaded automatic.
Anyway where's the 3 better hookers in one squad list gone ?

+s -
we got a win and 4pts.
Stevenson was MoM. A fine performance.

+s with attached deficiencies
scrum looked good but protection at the back was bad. Was this P3 coming back after injury? Was it the "new" P3/small p connection?
won plenty of possession but didn't use it clinically enough.

-s -
small p /RP didn't work. Marshall's distribution was poor and RPs decision making was off the mark. At one stage he called a switch from a ruck and passed the ball to Spence who had 3 Ospreys in front of him. It seems Ruan wants to play top of the ground rugby the whole time. Thats ok if the team are used to it and bought into it but Ulster aren't at the moment.
Spence had a poor game. He either bashed it up the middle or when he was in space tried to run outside his opponent. All this did was close down the space for the wingers and they could not be used. I honestly don't think he can pass the ball! At this rate his position looks like wing.
Too many senior players coasting on Friday night. Tuohy had a very quiet game and should have been pulled instead of Stevenson. Terblanche made one great last ditch tackle but thats another game where he has offered very little in attack. P3 does some good things but also gives away the stupidist of penalties at ruck time. Henry does not offer leadership. He should have been in the refs ear from the start about their offside tactics at every ruck.
Finally the substitutions seem to be done by numbers. Kyriackou was cack and should have been pulled after 30 mins. Tuohy should have gone instead of Stevenson. Danielli? What happened there? He was on wasn't he. I blinked and he was off again? Injured? Macklin got stripped and ready to come on with less than a minute left? Who is running the show?!
@LTHG - why do you say that Andi K was cack ?? What game where you watching?
I agree with you on the Tuohy / Stevenson issue big Louis was outstanding - in my opinion had his best game for Ulster on Fri night. Spence the way heis being used ie the crash ball - is not working. The other issue was Whitten on the wing - generally played well, but should have dived for the line to score instead of trying to ride the tackle and being bundled into touch by an excellent tackle from the O's #9. I was talking to Chris Henry after the game and asked him about the ref - he quoted that it was very difficult to get his ear and put the point across if the ref doesn't want to listen !
