From the speed of which they have suddenly completed the bars at the Prom side I'm guessing that they will be the same concrete block/industrial theme as the bars under the memorial end . The auld Scoop may be been stuck in the 70's, but at least it had some character.

Always ask yourself, "What would Big Rodney do"... And every time the answer is... "Eat It"

The redevelopment of Ravenhill continues with the first seats installed in the new grandstand.
Virtually all the block work in the stand is complete, with the bars at both ground floor and first floor level now at fit out stage.
Cladding is bring installed on the side of the new stand and will be complete within the week.
It is hoped that by the time of the next home game against the Newport Gwent Dragons on 28th February that spectator walk ways at the rear of the stand will be tarmac-ed.

Stadium bars are about one thing, and one thing only. Getting your hands on something cold and wet that looks a bit like the contents ought to, and getting back to your seat. Concrete walls, ceilings and exposed services are OK with me if I can get served and back on my perch before the whistle.
Any sort of gathering at Ravers will be held in the premium stand so the under stand bars will be purely match night serveries.
Now, if they can just actually sort out some form of service.....

Seems a lot of wasted space. I'll need to get a look around it to understand it.

I think it's the holes for the vomitories, that seems like wasted space, but the brief was for 18k and that's what is being delivered.damianmcr wrote:Seems a lot of wasted space. I'll need to get a look around it to understand it.

It sure is one ugly muthafacka of a stand. Frankly I'd have the architect flogged at half-time in every match next season.
I'm quite sure there will be some reason that ties the bits and pieces nature of the ghastly appearance together and doubtless, in future years when American tourists are taking the "Stadium Tour" of the greatest team in world rugby, the thought processes of the "creator" will be explained.
It's almost as aesthetically lamentable as the frankly grotesque Premium Stand which nobody has ever accused of splendour.
All that as may be, the most important thing is the capacity to meet the demands of increased numbers support, the ability to meet their drinking requirements within some tolerable timeframe and above all the necessity that the design holds and amplifies the guldering of the faithful. As such one hopes that the architect may have had some grasp of acoustics for a raucous din would be lovely in April.
All that remains is for the eyes of the faithful to be spared the sight of the Quinn family's bedroom gymnastics and for thon bint from the Newtownards Road who bought a house beside a rugby ground to have her Windies stove in by the sonic boom of the assembled gulderers guldering.
Ladies and gentlemen, I believe it's time I arose from my shakedown for brecky, thank you for reading my ranting.

NEVER MOVE ON. Years on, I cannot ever watch Ireland with anything but indifference, I continue to wish for the imminent death of Donal Spring, the FIRFUC's executioner of Wee Paddy & Wee Stu, and I hate the FIRFUCs with undiminished passion.
