So let me get this right. Because we are "supporters" of Ulster we should all come along to ravenhill and watch the team play really badly and lose to a poor side and not make any comment. Are we meant to applaud the team off and lionise these guys for doing their job badly? I'm struggling to remember the last Ulster match that I have actually enjoyed. It was only a small number of people who booed at the end but hundreds had already made the feelings plain by leaving in disgust 10 mins before the end when the Dragons got their try. It's the team that needs to lift the fans not the other way round.

AndyB I agree with you when you say the supporters should be allowed to comment if the team plays badly (not necesserily through booing them) however I don't completely agree when you say its the teams job to lift the supporters. I think that in this situation the supporters need to try and motivate the team but at the same time the team needs to give the supporters something to shout about.
Re: Booing your own team- you are a disgrace
I was so depressed at the end of the match I could barely lift myself to walk back to the car. We have had to endure 18 months of damn poor rugby since our shameful collapse against Munster 2nds that while I will cheer the team on at the start of the game (despite that dreadful song) but I just cannot remain cheering when we get mistake after mistake after mistake. I just can't do it anymore.

I think the collapse came away to London Irish in the Heiny.AndyB wrote:I was so depressed at the end of the match I could barely lift myself to walk back to the car. Andy, of course we have the right to comment. I think however that if we support the team thru thick n thin, then eventually the rewards will come, and the pleasant afterglow will appear again. i would hate the end of the season to come, and valued team members leave at the end of their contracts because they feel the fans weren't supportive enough of the team. It is a symbiotic relationship. I'll never boo them as they walk off, but tell them to get on with the job, try harder, and keep the faith, play for the red hand. It is difficult mind you.

I just wish I could see some improvement,. I was genuinely optimistic at the start of the season but at the end of Friday night’s game I was saying I wasn’t coming back except maybe for a few big games. In the cold light of day this won’t happen,I will go to all the games when possible but I seriously fear for the future of Ulster rugby if things don’t begin to turn around soon. All around me last week people were getting very frustrated and some or many just won’t come back. At a time when Leinster and Munster attendances are on the up the last thing we need are dwindling crowds.
Re: Booing your own team- you are a disgrace
That would wreck us completely, we are already way behind in the cash stakes and smaller crowds mean less cash and less cash less big name players, it's a vicious circle and we are already starting to spin towards the centreAndyB wrote: At a time when Leinster and Munster attendances are on the up the last thing we need are dwindling crowds.

Maybe I'm in a minority of one (quite enjoy it really), but while I did not Boo the team on Friday (frankly, I'm probably passed caring enough to expend the energy), I would object less to the booing of my own team than to booing the ref. A practice which, judging from the comments here, seems to have become perfectly acceptable. My old man would be turning in his grave ... if we hadn't cremated him!
Re: Booing your own team- you are a disgrace
nah,
booing is not on - full stop.
refs - we may be annoyed by individual performances and by the standard of some unions referees but without them there would be no game. and that would be worse.
Your own team - well l'd like to think we're better than the England fans who booed England off the field at Twickenham. When it comes down to it they're still our team and they're not losing on purpose...
the opposition - it's just bad manners to boo the oppo - we want them to come here and lose and go away full of awe for the the men in white

I will boo at foul play. I booed at a certain T Brennan.

Booing is becoming more and more common in society unfortunatly.
The more an ego relies on a sporting team to make it happy the more upset that ego will be when the team are not going well. Message here is to have other hobbies and interests so you don't rely on 1 thing for your happiness.
You'll all notice that he fans who get most upset by a teams poor performances are the fans who needs to get a life. It's more common to see this in soccer but generally nowadays people are relying on sporting teams more and more for their happiness.
