browner have a look at these local dealers:

Bikedock (bottom of Ravenhill Rd)
http://www.bikedock.com/posit/shop/inde ... 7&group=40

McConveys (Ormeau Rd just below bridge)
http://www.mcconveycycles.com/products. ... _Electric_

Scary prices!

There is a company in England that advertise "electric" bikes in the Daily Mail from time to time - if I can remember what they are called I'll let you know - their prices were a lot more reasonable.

Thanks for that Dancer.................scary prices indeed, but you need to look at the price of some road bikes to put this into context, seems you get what you pay for.

More concerned about the longevity of the batteries, can't seem to nail this fact down, though it should be somewhere on this site.....http://www.atob.org.uk/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;. they seem to carry all the info i need.

How's this for cheap at Tescos............http://direct.tesco.com/q/R.200-4475.aspx" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;.

Just back home with me new bike and i have to say i'm rather pleased with myself.

Cycled from Bikedock at the bottom of the Ravenhill road to the roundabout at Ards shopping centre then back to Dundonald and only a wee glow on my face and sweat free.

Conditions are crap..........very windy and drizzly rain but the bike with pedal assist made it easy.

Anybody thinking of this type of bike...........especially the old and infirm  ...........i can thoroughly recommend.

Fixie...had to google that, never heard that term.

Hell no...just a regular bike with enough gears to take me up most climbs. Torn between a road bike and a hybrid/sports thingy though.
Still researching. :?

If you're looking at clocking up the miles on the road, best get a bike with slim tyres.

I'm looking at a decent bicycle shop in Preston, could give you ideas as to what to look for:

http://broadgatecycles.co.uk/shop/produ ... cts_id=574

tbh, hybrid bikes are probably the best bet upon a very brief inspection.

I'm looking at getting a bike myself, got a mountain bike a few months ago, but very heavy and I want to do the Manchester - Blackpool bike race next year

Cool... if you can find a bike shop that will allow you to take the bikes out for a wee spin that is the best way to see what you prefer.

The frame geometry of a hybrid usually means you have a more upright riding position and personally I like this, particularly for cycling in urban/traffic conditions. With narrow tyres they are quick as well.

Browner,

Take a wee dander down to Decathlon at Holywood Exchange.
Good range of their own machines: http://www.decathlon.co.uk/EN/bikes-3962299/
Nice big car park down there, friendly well informed staff, they might let you take one for a wee spin.
