Thought I'd get this trhread going again. I assume it's reached Paris by now and will make it to the big do soon.

These opening ceremonies are such a lot of tosh.

The Lahndahn one was pretty good but so far this one certainly fits your description

Didn't see London.
I've tried to watch this one but, nope... I'm off to do a jigsaw.
Apart from anything else, it's a horrific waste of money.

Absolutely - it's in Seine

(someone was gonna do it, so why not me?)
I'm not arguing -
I'm just explaining why I'm right

The last ten minutes were good. The flame on the balloon was incredible and although I'm by any means a fan, Celine Dion was amazing.

Interesting that the two big names at the cermnony were N. Americans: Celine Dion and Lady Gaga. Wouldn't have thought the French would have gone for that.

Jean-Michel Jarre had another gig on.

Celine can speak French, I think.

French is her first language. French-Canadian and of French descent. Her performance after seeing her struggles in her documentary was all the more impressive.

Aye and Sasha Distel and Charles Aznavour were both tattie bread.

Clearly the secular core of French society came to the fore with the Last Supper drag queens thing. They've apologised... 'no intention to offend...'
Who could possibly have guessed that Christians might have been offended?

I thought it wasn't the last supper but a Greek thing?

That's what they said, Dionysius or Bacchus or something but even a quick look at Da Vinci's painting would make you wonder. Even if we accept that it wasn't intentional, how on earth could no-one have picked up the possibility for confusion and offence in the preparation in the last few months.

GB men’s gymnastics team finished 4th……. For the third time.
Wonder do they wish they had included young McClenaghan when they had the chance a few years back??

GB & NI is almost just GB this time (or just England according to some commentators across the sheugh) Just 6 NI athletes compared with 31 in Team Ireland.

That big lad Wiffen could be our first individual gold medallist for 52 years the marra.
