Brilliant game between Kerry and Mayo. Incredible intensity by both teams and Kerry squeezed through in extra time. To say they got some favourable decisions from the ref would be an understatement but at the same time you have to win, and they did.

One Mayo supporter got a bit excitable at the end and had to be escorted from the field. A fool obviously but one fool among 40k+ isn't bad.

Donegal were fantastic. I never thought they had it in them and when Dublin raced to an early lead I thought the game was done and dusted. They dug in though and produced a performance fitting for an All Ireland Semi. I think Dublin thought they were going to turn up and collect and may have been caught by the snaps by Donegal but that is not to take away from the Donegal performance.

Think we are set fair for a good final now and both teams will fancy their chances.

What a fantastic final today between Kilkenny and Tipperary which ends in a draw. Possibly the best game in any sport I've seen this year. They'll have to do it all again in a few weeks time.

At one stage in the second half I thought those Kilkenny ballixes were going to go clear and power on to victory as they went 4 points ahead but lots of credit to Tipp for clawing them back and fighting all the way. What a fecking pity they were just inches wide with the last puck of the ball but at least now we get another, hopefully, great game to look forward to.

You know we can't even get to see the finals up here, unless a Norn team is involved. This, being Hurling, I'm fairly confident will not be changing any time soon. One of, if not the best sporting occasions I have attended was Kilkenny v Offaly Hurling final c. 10 years ago ish. T'was a whupping for Offaly but to see DJ Carey who, for me, seemed to have so much more time on the ball. A true masterclass, somewhat like Zidane, baldness withstanding.

I thought you could get RTE. I know I watched a football match on RTE one time I was in Belfast.

Anyway yes DJ was a top class player. His ability to score goals was second to none in his time, and he wasn't afraid to score points either. His intercounty career total of 34 goals and 195 points is awesome. It's more or less on a par with Christy Ring. Of course they are not the highest but the likes of Henry Shefflin were free takers so would naturally have way more points. Still though Sheffln has 28 goals to go with his 478 points from 68 games. DJ was better as a goalscorer with his 34 from 57 games. Henry will probably go down as the better player in history but DJ for me was the more natural.

Kilkenny of course always have guys who can score goals. It is one of the things the manage to better than the rest a lot of the time and has won them many of their championships. Richie Power scored a glorious goal in the final this year. Incredible skill to cotrol the ball on his hurley at pace and then unleash a shot.

DJ in action....

All Ireland Football Final tomorrow. Kerry v Donegal. Hopefully will be a good game. I'll have to stick to my usual plan anyway of not supporting Kerry in finals as they have won too many already over the years. So therefore for one day this year only I will be standing up for the Ulstermen. :D

Match is on at 3:30. Before that at 1:15 we have the minor final which is also Kerry v Donegal. The minor match is on TG4 and the senior on RTE and Sky.

In the interests of balance I'll be up for the underdogs, Kerry, so. Up the kingdom!

Very poor final in terms of quality. Both teams showed a lack of interest in anything other than stopping the other team from playing. You have no choice but to do that when playing Donegal if you want to win as Dublin found out in the semi final.

In the end a stupid error from the Donegal goalkeeper played a large part in their defeat.

It wasn't the only stupid error, but it was the most glaring, and imho *was* the difference at the end.

Watched last 15 mins and had to smile when the Kerry guy kicked the ball that the Donegal goalie had placed down for a kick.
Why exactly was the black card given to the Kerry guy at the very end?
Discuss.

Presumably for a professional foul. A few Kerry men could have had them at the end.
