Other free-to-air agreements have yet to be concluded, although a deal with BBC Northern Ireland, which has previously shown matches involving local team Ulster, is expected to be announced "later this week or early next week," the organisers of the PRO12 told Sportcal.

Promising news indeed for the average punter - but I think its fair to say at this stage that Winker & Co. will take any reasonably priced deal they can get and won't make or break the deal on having to show the game on days other than Friday.

BBC getting a deal at this stage will probably have relatively little impact on whether our games are on Friday night or not.

That is great news if BBC NI have managed to pull this one back from the brink, hats off to the management in Belfast. As I said before they didn't want to lose it but were under all sorts of pressure and not just financial from other broadcasters

Can you elaborate or does that break anonymity/trust?

Setanta were certainly in the mix rumoured to be getting backing from BT, TG4 were also snooping around. On the other matters of scheduling, national programming and red button constraints needed overcome along with finance to a degree but not the key to it all.
That's as far as I will go but I can assure you that it is all correct and fair play to the management team if rugby has been rescued from the brink.

Just Ulster and Italian deals left now >threaten
Edinburgh’s trip to Munster in the opening round of the new Guinness PRO12 tournament will be covered live on BBC ALBA next month – the first of 16 matches shown on either BBC ALBA or BBC Scotland between now and early January 2015.

BBC ALBA’s continued coverage of Scotland’s two premier sides will see them show coverage of 12 live and one deferred match in the first 13 rounds of the PRO12.

And this season for the first time, BBC Two Scotland will also show a number of matches live, including the New Year derby match between Edinburgh and Glasgow on Friday January 2.
Red-button option

The BBC Two Scotland coverage is expected to start next month with the Ospreys v Edinburgh match on Sunday September 21 with Glasgow’s visit to Treviso on October 5 also on the cards. Coverage will continue across the BBC channels in Scotland right through the season, including the live play-offs, should either of the Scottish teams reach that stage of the tournament.

In addition to those live matches on BBC Two Scotland, English language viewers will also be provided with a red button option on BBC ALBA which will offer English commentaries for the BBC ALBA matches while Gaelic viewers will also have a red button option for BBC Scotland matches.

All games will either be shown on Friday evenings with 7.35pm kick-offs or on Sunday afternoons. Coverage of all matches on BBC ALBA and BBC Two Scotland will be produced by independent company mneTV.

“We’re very pleased to be able to continue offering top class rugby to our viewers as we have done over the last few seasons and we have a great selection of games coming up for the first half of the season,” said BBC ALBA’s Head of Content, Alan Esslemont, while BBC Scotland’s Head of Sport, Ewan Angus, is looking forward to bringing some of the action to BBC Two Scotland viewers.

“We’re delighted to be complementing BBC ALBA’s rugby coverage and the combination of some live matches and also providing English commentaries will do just that,” he said.

As well as TV coverage of the Guinness PRO12 matches, Radio Scotland will add to the mix by again offering listeners live matches and reports wherever possible.

The coverage has been welcomed by Mark Dodson, Scottish Rugby Chief Executive.

Any news on TV coverage by BBC2NI?

They won't be able to use the pound - nonsense
They won't be able to join the EU - nonsense
BBC Scotland and Alba cease to exist - nonsense
From the rolling glens of Antrim through the hills of Donegal we will stand and shout for Ulster as we win both scrum and maul from the lovely lakes of Fermanagh tae the shores of ould Lough Gall we will scream and shout for Ulster as we beat them one and all!

Well they can call it a pound but it won't be guaranteed by BOE so won't be worth a lot, the Spanish and the French have said they will veto a decision to let them into the EU as they don't want a hornets nest starting by the Basques, on the other hand they won't vote for independance and all normal service will resume with the Scots still hating the English and the English not giving a feck about the Scots.

Expect news during the first half of next week on TV coverage of Ulster.
