It's a functional thing, the vomitoria do look rather large, but If it doesn't harm the functionality .....
Fixed. You should know better snipe!

Big Smoke Culchie wrote:I agree. It's aesthetically gash. On the other hand, name me a rugby ground in this country that is an architectural splendour. Quins is worthy but dull (and prefab). Bath is positively stone age. Even Twickenham looks like something the soviets would have built.
I reckon Franklin's Gardens is pretty nice. Then again, last time I was there I was happily and tipsily guldering from the little tiny Shrubbery Stand (no joke, that's what it's called) after a damn fine thrashing of Hartley and co, so maybe I'm a bit biased.

The new Grandstand isn't much of a looker, but then again neither was the old one. At least they've got rid of the columns that periodically blocked your view!

Oh, and the asbestos too

Still a way to go before it's ready for human habitation, let alone Ulsterman usage but it will be ready for April 5 no problem, barring something unforeseen.
You see that is just simply offensive Rocky, I oughtta come over there and rip you a .............. oh never mind. The thing is you simply object to the fact that I am a man of taste & austere functionality in design doesn't please my eye.

My dear friend, I contend that in your private moments you do not regard it as a thing of beauty. That said, I suggest that you read my more recent post & I'm sure you will be at least somewhat mollified from your current grumpy outrage at my harsh but fair assessment of the feckin' state of thon edifice
Actually, if you add in the premium stand, the total cost is about £22Million. Compared with the cost of other stadia, it seems extremely good value to me, given that it is built to the highest English standard, which is a level above the best standard applied here in NI.

I think it's the holes for the vomitories, that seems like wasted space, but the brief was for 18k and that's what is being delivered.

You're not normally so slow Snipe, very clearly I do. That said, though clearly I don't find it purdy as a pichure I will of course be unfeasibly proud of it when it's up and running at full tilt.

Typical small minded Ulstermen who don't get that something can be a wonderful asset whilst not aesthetically a wonderment.

Well at least you are not insulting my profoundly held opinion on this occasion :thumleft: :thumleft:

I absolutely agree it is an excellent stadium and it appears terrific value however that can be said about a Tesco Value product but doesn't preclude the possibility that other products are available and infinitely tastier, albeit more expensive.

Indeed and no doubt I will be chastised for saying that Thomond Park is probably the best ground I've been to. :duck:

I agree though - Ravenhill is/will be a brilliant compromise of all those conflicting preferences, with the emphasis very much where it should be on playing and pool-side facilities. :stir:

The question was more of a manner of speech than an actual question. I was completely aware of your reservations and also knew that you would love it like one of your own when complete. >drinks

Not chastise, BR .... just correct you!

TP is a magnificent ground, but in my opinion, (which is right - yours is wrong) the stands are too high at the back (may as well stay at home and watch on tele, for all the view you have - either that or bring your noculars) and the terrace is a poor second to Ravers from a spectating pov, even with Ravers new rear loading format. As for behind the posts at TH .... don't go there!

But when are there ever enough folk in it to have to sit in the high up seats? >TM

It's always a compromise and the high seats at TP, are better IMHO than the corner seats at an equivalent capacity ground.

I'd rather be on the end terrace a TP than at the top of the memorial stand at RH. Agree that OUR terrace is better than any others I can think of.

Absolutely correct on the TP stands BR, much better high than stuck in a corner.

You also raise a scary point about the Ravers terrace for when put to it, I can't think of a better one either & yet they have bloody ruined ours. >threaten
