Favourite match of last season...
On the cusp of the new season, I was thinking; which match did I enjoy most from last season? [not to be confused with just great performances]
A few of my personal highlights:
Was it beating Munster in Ravenhill; resolute defence to defy the turnips at the death and Radge not having the balls to take on a long-range drop goal?
Was it beating Leinster at Ravenhill; the scrum pen-try and of course, big Nick scattering plug down under the old main stand? That itself was worth a try.
Or Northampton away; the unbeaten bandwagon rolling over to England and destroying the much vaunted Premiership elite. Even though I only watched it on the telly with some mates... it was an electric night. While our season was to eventually come somewhat undone - at that point we were riding the crest of a tidal wave and the optimism was infectious. A great night to be an Ulsterman.

Leinster away. First win in 13 years and fully deserved. Great night.
You haven't seen me at my best yet. Let's be honest, you probably never will.

Cardiff away.
After a very tough and emotional two weeks for the squad they pulled it together and handed Cardiff their asses on a plate.

And as the player tried to take the field, the marching band refused to yield and do you recall what was revealed........

Northampton away no contest.
Smashing a side like away from home at full strength with all eyes on us in the HEC was the standout and I never saw it coming.
That was our best ,most complete performance I have seen from an Ulster side and that's why I enjoyed it the most.
Pity it seemed to be the pinacle rather than the start of something.as for me we have never reached those heights since.
Its the first time Iin the pro era I could say,we play like that we could beat anyone.
Other two, Cardiff and Leinster were great but don't match it as Cardiff were weak and Leinster were not at full strength.

You can only play what's in front of you Bazz.bazzaj wrote:Other two, Cardiff and Leinster were great but don't match it as Cardiff were weak and Leinster were not at full strength.

I just meant which match did you enjoy most - the technicalities of the match being (somewhat) irrelevant.bazzaj wrote:Other two, Cardiff and Leinster were great but don't match it as Cardiff were weak and Leinster were not at full strength.
While I did immensely enjoy the win over Leinster in their back yard, I enjoyed Northampton away more as, for that week anyway, we were looking every inch the best in Europe. Good times. [also, while it is great to beat the mexicans or turnips... for me, its even better to beat up on england's finest!]
Our bubble had somewhat burst when it came round to playing Leinster away in the RDS.

Still the saints match for me.
Enjoyed every second and rarely felt better after a game.

Saints away for me ..... if for no other reason than I got under Dylan Hartley's skin even before kick-off!
I'm not arguing -
I'm just explaining why I'm right

Saints away for me for the good & sufficient reason that Grumps got under Hartley's skin.
Actually you could pick anyone of quite a few all for different reasons.
On balance, for me Leinster at home, that was a match that we could not lose & hope to win silverware. I had flegged it up all season as the most important game of the season (some chubes disagreed), more important psychologically than the HC games, it was absolutely vital to get the first win in ages notched up against them.
The RDS win was superb & especially as intense pressure was dealt with not to mention a late video ref referral in bizarre circumstances.
The Saints away was the best display of finishing I can recall from an Ulster team.
The win in Castres doubly important for a 1st win in France & the win to secure our 1st ever group win albeit the rugby was crap but we pulled ourselves back from a poor start.
Caaaaaaaaaaadiff away after Nev's demise was gutsy not to mention emotional.
The win in Swansea in game 2 from 13-3 down & playing crap - enter the bench & we damn near killed them.
Munster at home, overcoming a determined Frenchie Rolland try to set up ROG for a winner, he did a better job than Turnipstan by the way & suggesting ROG bottled a DG is nonsense, he was never put in remote position to do it, a credit to our team's defence & discipline.
Quite a few & I'm sure I may have forgotten one or two, I know that at both Dragons & Connacht we were behind & playing none too well but ended up with 5 pointers in both.

NEVER MOVE ON. Years on, I cannot ever watch Ireland with anything but indifference, I continue to wish for the imminent death of Donal Spring, the FIRFUC's executioner of Wee Paddy & Wee Stu, and I hate the FIRFUCs with undiminished passion.

The past is a foreign country, people. Time to leave it all behind and march on to glory, let's hope!

Don't be a killjoy Rockstar , sure the past isn't past until the future has started, if you catch my drift.

Has to be Leinster away for me. The drama and tension of the last ten minutes were almost unbearable.
