"Not looking after the ball" seems to be very much in vogue of late, particularly with the Kiwis.

That Warren Gatland, Warren Gatland cited that as a major issue in the Lions defeat and Maaaak often trots it out after an Ulster reverse.

Any others?

The Lions have been so underwhelming I'm really just attempting to start my own cliche to fill in time before the new season. Wally's best ever comment ( about Leinster going down quicker than the Belgrano against Munster ) never had the chance to become a cliche ...

Not quite as irritating Merv as its cousin - "we didn't respect the ball".

Another personal favourite, "we hadn't earned the right to go wide".

The irritating thing about "clicheman" is that those he uses generally have a ring of authenticity about them, just too many of them grate on the ear.

"Hard yards" may be a cliche but that's because it's true. How often have Ulster, for instance, failed because they didn't "do the hard yards"?
