I have been playing rugby and going to matches for longer than I care to remember. If you think booing and disrespecting your opponents and the ref is OK it says more about you than anything.

Are you saying that doing it "in jest" is not okay? Seems to me like you DID think it was ok.

I go to matches to have a bit of fun too - some probably think I go too far at times, but I do draw a line well before some of what I saw and heard yesterday. It did come from a small minority, I hasten to add.

There were very obviously some bandwagon jumpers, but at one stage we were all new to Ulster Rugby and new fans must be welcomed if we are to fill our nice shiny new 18K stadium and generate revenue. Maybe we need educate new supporters, and challenge unacceptable behaviour when we see and hear it. If that sounds like taking the "moral highground", I can live with that - the weather's not bad where I am just now.

But how else can someone show disagreement with a referees decision in giving penalties to the opposition when he overlooks similar and prior offences by the opposition.

I have always maintained that referees are not judged on the penalties they give because most of the time the decision is correct but it the offences they overlook which offend the spectator.

For example yesterday Henderson was quickly whistled for non release of the ball while Leinster were equally guilty of non release after the tackle .

For me Lacey was a referee given his big game and wanted to show who was in charge except his performance lacked authority because he blew either too late or too early.

Whilst we did witness some poor behaviour yesterday and despite the result, I'm sure that most of us feel priviliged to have have part of a great and unique sporting occasion. Before, during and after, the atmosphere yesterday was fantastic. The Leinster supporters could not have been more friendly or welcoming. I can only dream that we get the chance to do again next year, at Ravenhill and with us picking up the trophy.

Personally it didn't overly bother me (or the Leinster players for that matter), but the constant booing and shouting for Sextons kicks, the fact that the announcer had to request respect for both kickers (Pienaar and Ulster were shown perfect respect by Leinster), booing of the Leinster team announcement, booing of the officials, the jeering of Conway at one point as he slipped and retrieved the ball from infront of the terrace (it looked like if he was any closer those fans would attack him)....it just doesn't reflect well on Ulster imo....looks a little bit scumbag-ish / soccer-fan-ish ... I don't know, like I said, whatever floats your boat, but the Ulster fans were insanely aggressive and crude in the terrace I was in also, I could see a few folks a little bit embarressed / cringing at the whole thing.

There was a very funny incident in the south terrace involving a flag also (what is the deal with you lads and flags??), a Northern Irish flag with the queens crown was tied to a railing in a mostly Leinster packed section of the crowd and a Leinster flag was draped over it (by a Leinster fan who was standing at that position), and I thought the Ulster lads there were going to attack him, they were in his face and saying "that's our national flag" and a peace treaty was negotiated that the Ulster man agreed to take down his flag on the condition the Leinster fella put his flag away (as they were blocking view from behind) .. .. ugggh, it was all a bit...I dunno....

I know the one you mean, re Henderson - passed comment on it at the time that he was barely on the ground when ref blew, but then Plug was reffing at that particular moment - shouting and gesticulating right into then ref's face demanding the penalty. Plug is good at that and the ref bought it.
