Ulster v Scarlets

Post by ardsrugbyards »

Scarlets could be missing a couple for this fixture

The hearings for Rob McCusker and Gareth Owen (both from Scarlets) will take place on Wednesday 2 January 2013.

Even allowing for those banned, it will be very interesting to see what team comes over - much knashing of teeth on Scarlet Fever as to players who don't care, not playing for the shirt, internal fighting etc. Indeed, seems very reminiscant of Ulster circa 2008...

My team would be:
(15-9) J Payne, A Trimble, D Cave, L Marshall, C Gilroy, P Jackson, R Pienaar (1-8) T Court, R Best, J Afoa, L Stevenson, N McComb, I Henderson, C Henry (c), R Wilson.
Subs: N Annett, C Black, A Macklin, R Diack, N Williams, P Marshall, P Wallace, M Allen.

Luke Marshall deserves the 12 shirt, he has been simply outstanding this season so far. PW has been great too, but Marshall has been just incredible. I think Annett should get a spot on the bench too, he did very well last night, as did Allen who should get a spot on the bench too. Olding and Birch should really be considered too.

Not for the Heineken Cup games though, but since this is just a "warm-up" I feel we can afford to give them a run out. They'll have earned it if they get it.

I like that team ruck. Great bench too with Diack, Williams and Wallace especially.

Henderson at 4 instead of Stevenson and Diack at 6

Henderson is the best 6 Ulster have in the absence of Ferris, and it's where he caught the attention of the Test selectors and where he looks most suited. Stevenson needs gametime and McComb had been good so why change the locks?

Rory Best will and must start and I think if Maaaaaak is too his word Annett should get the 16 shirt would like to see him get 10-15mins at least to see if last night wasn't just a one off the boy did well, I know it is an important build up game and the 23 squad has to be the best available but Herring hasn't really made the shirt his own yet.

Might have Birch on the bench instead of Diack (give him a weeks rest) bring on Birch for Henry with 20 to go

We have the options in the back row to be able to rest players or at least not require a full 80 mins a game .

With two ERC in two weeks Ulster don't want to go Castres with a tired back row.

At 6 we have available Henderson Williams and Diack

But we are playing with only Henry as the obvious 7 don't over expose him

When's Tuohy due back?
You've got to get your first tackle in early, even if it's late.

Thought Gillroy didn't look fit last night and Allen did well so would start him on the wing

It will just depend on who MA would like to play in the 2nd row for Glasgow.

Henderson at 4 instead of Stevenson and Diack at 6- why? He is at his best as flanker.

Williams over Wilson agree with This Roger looked off somehow. Might have been the pressure of being captain. Dunno but give Fit Nick a run bring sgt on for the last 30 both fresh for big game :salut:
