Springboks aim to unveil own haka
White believes his side can benefit from performing the dance in public
South Africa want to unleash their own version of the All Blacks' famous haka based on an old Zulu war dance.
Springboks coach Jake White has asked the rugby authorities about reviving a ritual in public that the players already perform in the changing-room.
"History books show the 1926 Springboks performed a Zulu war dance in major matches on their tour," White said.
"New Zealand have come up with a new haka recently and I would like to use ours as a challenge to them."
The haka, based on a Maori warrior challenge to an enemy, has long been part of New Zealand's pre-match routine.
Different versions have been used over the years, including one finishing with a throat-slitting gesture that has been criticised for being overly aggressive.
White believes performing the Boks' own version could bring benefits to the side as they prepare for the World Cup in September, where England are their main group rivals.
"We have done this challenge before in our team room in the four years since I have been involved as coach, but it hasn't really taken off as an idea to do it public. Not yet, anyway.
The All Blacks take great pride in the haka
"I have heard old All Blacks sit in the grandstand and pick up the whole mood of the team just from the haka the players perform."

As per the 'Response to the Haka' emails, will the Northern lads march through the oppo changing rooms beforehand?fermain wrote:BOD and Darce doing Riverdance anyone?
If we aim to do something historic, the ancient Celts used to go into battle naked and there is this for the Scots.

Absolutely Brilliant Cossax !!
and what a good idea ? Should be no problem either at the new Lansdowne or Croker as there would n't be any Concerned Residents Groups to kick up a fuss - '' Ah To be Sure'' the recent Elections shows there are no Shiiners left in the Free State !!??
Warmest Regards THP

And in true Northern style, Tighty has established a NEW tradition.
Do something once it sets a precedent, do something TWICE, it becomes traditional.
(One of these years, the Orange will be allowed to go down the Garvaghy Road, but they'll decline and insist on their now traditional route of marching up to a barrier and handing in a protest letter - and the concerned residents will insist on the removal of such barriers, just to be contrary)

Don't tell ArdtostopooglingthePussyCatDollsmichael, but the US will probably run out to an honour guard of Cheer Leaders.

It's more comfortable to be mad and know it, than to be sane and have one's doubts.
Anyway, the only difference between me and a madman is I’m not mad….I think…
