Paul O'Connell retires

Post by thecrouch »

http://www.irishrugby.ie/news/36867.php#.Vrm9BfmLT1t

"Ireland's talismanic leader Paul O'Connell has announced his retirement from rugby and has issued the following statement.

It is with deep regret that I have decided to retire from professional rugby following medical advice. I would like to take this opportunity to thank all at Rugby Club Toulonnais for their understanding and support over the past few months."

Sad news for the him, thought he'd do really well over in France. Some man for one man! :salut: :salut:

Nothing but respect and admiration for the guy. A true legend.

My greatest tribute to POC is I wish he was an Ulsterman.

Indeed Fleg - indeed.

No one is perfect, but he was well up there. perhaps the only improvement there could have been in Paulie were if he were an Ulsterman

Sadly like so many before him it has been a decision forced upon him. Great role model for all who will follow.

Thx for the memories Paulie >you_rock

New forwards coach anyone?

Absolute legend and a born leader of men. Toulon could have really used him this year.
I have my own tv channel, what have you got?

Just a man who played the game properly, shame that he did not get his last few years in the sun ! Always admired him and he will be a huge miss to the game, hopefully he stays in it in some capacity, great thinker and reader of the game.

All the best big man.

Giant of a man, literally and figuratively speaking. Favourite Irish player not from Ulster.

Just manic fecking aggression, that was Paulie's call to arms. I hated when he left Munster, looks like fate decreed it was a bad move.

Really sorry to see any player forced to retire, especially ligands like Paulie and Fez. Sad news.
NEVER MOVE ON. Years on, I cannot ever watch Ireland with anything but indifference, I continue to wish for the imminent death of Donal Spring, the FIRFUC's executioner of Wee Paddy & Wee Stu, and I hate the FIRFUCs with undiminished passion.

A real leader of men and a beast on the pitch, I was always happy to have him playing with us than against us.

I'm sorry it ended this way for him, he didn't deserve that.

He's too valuable an asset to Irish rugby to lose so I hope he stays involved in some capacity in the future.

"Hero" and "legend" are words too often used, but he is worthy of both. The plaudits he gets from players and coaches speaks volumes about his character. I hope he has a bit of time off but stays in the game in some capacity!
