That was a trial iirc. I'm completely lost as to what rules/interpretations/directives/trials are currently being applied.
I think the U19 game is even more complicated. They have specialist locks. I mean, come off it! I've heard 2nd row called many things, but specialised, it is not!
Remember it started as a trial to stop this sort of carry on and the results showed it was very effective in cutting the number of matches which went uncontested so thought it was being adopted as a permanent change.
3.6 Uncontested scrums
(a)
Scrums will become uncontested if either team cannot field a suitably trained front row or if the referee so orders.
(b)
Unions/match organisers may determine whether or not a game may start or continue with uncontested scrums.
(c)
When a front row player leaves the playing area, whether through injury or temporary or permanent suspension, the referee will enquire at that time whether the team can continue with contested scrums. If the referee is informed that the team will not be able to contest the scrum then the referee will order uncontested scrums. If the player returns or another front row player comes on then contested scrums may resume.
(d)
In a squad of 23 players, or at the discretion of the Union/match organiser, a player whose departure has caused the referee to order uncontested scrums cannot be replaced.
(e)
If they are available, a team must have three front row players in the front row at all times. In an uncontested scrum, only when there is no available front row replacement or substitute is any other player permitted to play in the front row.
(f)
If, as a result of a front row player being temporarily suspended, another player has to be nominated by the team to leave the playing area to enable an available front row player to come on, the nominated player may not return until the period of suspension ends.
(g)
If, as a result of a front row player being sent off, another player has to be nominated by the team to leave the playing area to enable an available front row player to come on, the nominated player may act as a replacement/substitute.

I suppose that has to be weighed up against the pressure on a prop to play on with an injury.

Munster decent scrum, not so great elsewhere in that game. Still though not a bad start to the season overall even if we are not playing that well so far. 9 and 10 still the major areas of concern. When we have to play without Murray it is extremely worrying and if anything goes wrong with Tyler we are probably ballixed.
Also we urgently need POM and TOD back and for the whole season.

Munster Rugby and the IRFU can today confirm the province's latest squad additions with Rhys Marshall, Thomas du Toit and Cathal Sheridan all signing contracts.
Hooker Rhys Marshall joins from Super Rugby side the Chiefs after penning a three-year deal that will see him stay with the province until June 2019. Marshall, who has made 22 Super Rugby appearances, debuted against the Highlanders in 2013 and played his part in the Super Rugby winning campaign that year.
Sharks prop Thomas du Toit will join the province on a three month loan agreement, subject to being granted a valid work permit. The 21-year-old, who can play both loose and tight-head, has represented the Barbarians and South Africa "A", and played in two U20s World Championships. The Cape Town native is currently involved in the Currie Cup and is expected to arrive in mid-October.
UL Bohemians scrumhalf Cathal Sheridan who finished up with the province last May returns to the fold in a short-term capacity. He now returns to the squad after signing a three-month contract.

In theory, that's Munster's quota of NIQs complete - Marshall (PP - IQ 19), Kleyn (PP- IQ 19), Chisholm (may not play again - concussion issues), Tyler B (PP - IQ 17) and Saili.
I've been out of action for a bit there and I didn't manage to see the game v Zebre but I see Munster put up a big score and now are in 2nd in the league. Big game this week though and hard enough to see us managing to win but you never know. Would fecking love to see it. Gwan Munster.
