Any word on the Academy?

Definitely, they need to get in there more. A day every other week per player spread throughout the squad would hardly do any harm. The schools I'm sure would love to see it.

They don't need to they have dedicated coaches on 100k a year there and professional level programs. We don't and need to think outside the box to get some high level training into schools.

Consider emulating Wallace's approach by implementing a system where students are required to pay a fee to participate in extracurricular activities.

While this concept may raise some concerns, if it ensures that high-level sports programs can continue to exist in schools without imposing an exorbitant financial burden, it should be considered as a viable option.

I would find it disheartening if my child were denied the opportunity to participate in school activities due to insufficient funding.

I overlayed with those in U19 & U18 leaving school from NTS/PTS. I’m assuming they also would be theoretically eligible for the next round of Academy in 2024. Although number of older ones probably ahead in the reckoning.

As a dad of two players I would happily pay a little more if it meant they would continue their sporting development.

School coaches often go way above and beyond and for that I am very grateful

Problem is that this isn’t within Ulster rugbys remit. That would fall under each school or the education minister. Ulster rugby would surely have no power to do this??

Anyway, for all the talk about the Leinster school system, it still falls hugely on the shoulders of St Michaels and especially Blackrock. Gonzaga look to have joined the higher echelons recently.

Even in Munster the two cork schools look to producing the bulk of their underage sides.

RBAI, Methody and CCB aren’t consistently producing top underage prospects. Wallace High has done well in recent years.

The other country clubs and schools are good for a player or two every season. No different to Leinster.

Only problem is for those kids whose parents can't afford the extra fees. Perhaps a 'scholarship' or two would deal with this.

No idea what the situation is now, but know Wallace used to have fairly nominal school fees, with the option to pay/donate more, along with a suggested donation. I'd personally be happy with a similar system for extra-curricular activities, let those in a position to pay, but I wouldn't want kids whose parents were struggling to be excluded.

Turf any decent prospects down to St Michaels on scholarship with they proviso they stay in the Ulster system. They're on the road to nowhere up here.
