World PLayer of the Year

Post by BaggyTrousers »

World Rugby Player of the Year nominees:

Beauden Barrett (New Zealand)
Dane Coles (New Zealand)

Owen Farrell (England)
Jamie Heaslip (Ireland)
Maro Itoje (England)
Billy Vunipola (England)
NEVER MOVE ON. Years on, I cannot ever watch Ireland with anything but indifference, I continue to wish for the imminent death of Donal Spring, the FIRFUC's executioner of Wee Paddy & Wee Stu, and I hate the FIRFUCs with undiminished passion.

It's a weak selection without a standout candidate.
Itoje is going to be awesome, but is he yet?

Poor list. Surely someone in the "best backline in Europe" should be on it. :D

I'd go for Owen Farrell. Not everyone's favourite I know but a great player. Good enough for Paulie, good enough for me.

Aye, how they missed out Liam Wiliams I do not know. G'wan Scaaaaaaaaaaalets. :thumleft:

Heaslip will continue to be underrated, he really has been a magnificent player and contrary to the look of him, tough as ould boots. :mexican:

Everyone in Irish rugby takes Jamie for granted.
The fact is that he has been doing his special thing for a long time back to the U 20s world cup in 2004.
At the heart of the Grand Slam campaign in 2009 and many times since.

Apart from his sheer ability, his capacity to stay free of injury is simply remarkable in this day and age.
No shoulder reconstructions, no ACLs etc. The man could keep going to Japan in 2019.

There, I have jinxed him. Probably out for the season after the next one.... Here's hoping for a big game from him on Saturday week.

It is something that he shares with Axel, D4 and I think back to when that dirty Frenchbastard Pape knee'd him in the spine, everyone thought he was banjaxed for a long time, back he came after 3 weeks I think it was.

There's times I get a bit meh about him but underneath I know him to be a bit special.

Heaslip sometimes good sometimes unseen knowledgeable and experienced but player of the year ?? There are several back row players who are better during his playing career and if picking a world 15 would he make it ?

It looks like a long service medal or a John Wayne Oscar awarded for a body of work over many years non of which were Oscar quality but always watchable
