An honest grafter, and a top bloke.
indeed, a cracking player, and not just a ruck inspector - check out who's on Heaslip's shoulder in this try in the match that set us on our way to the grand slam.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JTS85UE1ask

I remember reading an interview with Mike McGurn, and he said that Hayes did almost no gym work - he was already phenomenally strong naturally, and keeping in the gym you just risked putting on a load more kilos for no good reason, and reducing his mobility

Wasn't a massive fan of Hayes but with hindsight realise his importance in that era.
Ever present at a time when we had no alternatives, he was one of the great line out lifting props which POC will readily testify to mmentioned earlier.
People slag off his scrummaging but this wasn't helped by the fact that David Wallace rarely lent him his shoulder at the cost of wanting to break quickly.
As fleg says, top man

load of crap re David Wallace Bazza. Why the need to find fault with any of those who formed a magnificent pack full of honest endeavour, heart, passion and all of the other qualities that great packs possess. Catch a grip son.

Janey Mac, the Bull and David Wallace besmirched in the same thread. I'm delighted to see the return of shorties, fatties and squatties as props but the Bull is someone I'd always have time for and a man deserving of the success and acclaim garnered in a fine career. as Baz says a man who contributed in no small amount to the other full-blown liginds in that Munster side.

if Ulster found themselves with a prop and flanker half as good as Hayes and Wallace I'd be happy indeed. here's hoping some of the new faces in the front row can manage that - Herbst already seems like he has cult hero writ large on him. Warwick's a fascinating lump of a thing...really looking forward to seeing him develop in the jersey this season.

think it'll be close, 4 and below either way. I've no idea. the preseason performances were good but as Baggy says the Brainfart Bros will probably decide the match. Small P may get settled and confident in there because he'll be playing a fair bit of rugby until the Blessed Ruan returns.

I reckon we will have a surprise or two on the bench.

Wasn't my intention to diss Wallace as much as offering a explanation as to why Hayes was under pressure at scrum time Owl so sorry if you took it that way.
Props are assisted as much by flankers squeezing in as by second rows pushing.
Flankers are of course more concerned with binding on the arm as they don't want to get tied up with pushing as they want to disrupt the opposition at the earliest opportunity.
Wallace did just that
Check out the old footage or ask a prop then come back to me.

Noticing O'Hagan is with the U20s this weekend. Olding on the bench for fly-half cover? Or ideally, just starting at 12 . . .

Starting 12 and cover at 10 using either himself, Payne, Ludik or could PJ possibly be on the bench ?

Olding on the bench to cover 10 and centre. What is the latest with GP?

We do. And most agree. It's just funny to ignore you sometimes.
