Not going to dispute the benefits of dog ownership, but last time I checked, everyone has the same mortality rate of 100%.

Mortality's the same though - 100%

Just the expiry date that gets shoved back a bit ..... in general

Not disputing therefore that life expectancy is probably longer, but we all die some time.

It's the idiot headline writer I was objecting too, who seemed to imply that having a dog could mean some people managed to avoid the grim reaper indefinitely.

Id love a dog and so would the wife but we both work full time and I would never leave it at home alone. I think its cruel too do this.

With all due respect - that's complete baleex. Even just something as obvious as opposable thumbs makes humans greatly superior in most realms.

There are still gaps that technology can't match. Ask David Blunkett

If only we knew someone high up in the RNIB, who we could consult.

There's no one-size-fits-all solution, but there are better aids for Mr Blunkett, they are just not as cost effective as a labrador ... yet.

A human, for example.
