That, Mike, is a well kept secret that the Ulster public has a rite 2 no.

On the other hand, could the Leinster public bare the fact that their own taxes are being used to light up the coastlines of Ulster?

The Honorable User may wish to know that this is a complex matter which has been discussed and altered over many years.

This from Trinity House website today:
Light Dues are paid into the General Lighthouse Fund (GLF), which is under the stewardship of the Department for Transport. The fund is used to finance the lighthouse services provided by Trinity House, the Northern Lighthouse Board (responsible for Scotland and the Isle of Man) and the Commissioners of Irish Lights (responsible for the waters of both Northern and the Republic of Ireland).

"Light Dues" are currently charged on commercial vessels using ports in the British Isles. Vessels pay light dues at a rate of 35p per ton up to a maximum of £12,250 per voyage :o and Chargeable up to 7 times per year.

One could easily overlook the hidden costs of commercial shipping.

Back to subsidiary topic - probably not true, but still believable

This is the actual radio conversation ALLEGEDLY (released by the chief of naval operations) of a US naval ship with Canadian authorities off the coast of Newfoundland in October 1995.

CANADIANS: "Please divert your course 15 degrees to the south to avoid a collision"

AMERICANS: "Recommend YOU divert your course 15 degrees to the north to avoid a collision"

CANADIANS: "Negative. You will have to divert your course 15 degrees to the south to avoid a collision"

AMERICANS: "This is the captain of a US Navy ship. I say again, divert YOUR course"

CANADIANS: "No, I say again, you divert your course"

AMERICANS: "This is the Aircraft Carrier USS LINCOLN, the second largest ship in the United States Atlantic Fleet. We are accompanied with three Destroyers, three Cruisers and numerous support vessels. I DEMAND that you change your course 15 degrees north. I say again, that's one-five degrees north, or counter-measures will be undertaken to ensure the safety of this ship"

CANADIANS: "This is a LIGHTHOUSE. Your call"

(Okay, it's definitely not true, but what the heck?)

Misleadingname HWM, the Lighthouse club is not just an organisation for the appreciation of the great houses of light, and therefore i couldnt help but feel just slightly disappointed
Why is it called The Lighthouse Club?", someone asked the other day, "Does it help old men in lighthouses scattered across lonely cliff-tops throughout the world?" Well, for the uninitiated perhaps, but in reality, no.

In essence, The Lighthouse Club is a non-political organisation that raises money, through social activities, to assist less fortunate persons who are associated with the construction industry.

Could have fooled me with the title to this particular image :D http://www.lighthouseclub.com.hk/Photos ... C_0801.htm" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
