Great call Justin, as long as you like good meat you'll be in carnivore heaven. The Wine is just a bonus.

Chile for wine, Argentina for beef, Uruguay - so what it's not illegal.
Argentina is possibly the worst place I've ever been as a vegetarian. One particular incident stands out. After 20 minutes of a friend and I explaining what we ate and what we didn't, the waitress finally got the idea and agreed she could get the chef to make a sandwich without meat in it. She went to the kitchen. Came back 15 minutes later with a sausage and cheese sandwich and said, "Well, I told the chef and he said it wouldn't taste good without the meat." In fairness, the chef probably had a point but still... Worst part of it was that our meat-eating friends received a shoulder of beef that smelled just about perfect and looked like something out of the Flintstones.

Actually, Kyrgyzstan and Liberia might be worse. In Liberia, my soup was "vegetarian" because it had vegetables along with the meat. In Kyrgyzstan, they killed a sheep to honour my coming... Really, I'm not sure why I bother!
That made me laugh. Best steak I ever had was in Argentina - heavenly mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

If you are after the best of both worlds, Tahoe is worth a visit. For those of a certain vintage it is a dot on the map that was burning during the opening credits of Bonanza. The state line runs up the middle of the town so on the california side the buildings are mostly single storey timber built affairs. Nice, quiet and picturesque. The other side of the street you are in Nevada and you have the multi storey casinos, bright lights and pizzaz. Me and the future Mrs Mum were there in the early 80s. We went for dinner and a show in one of the casinos for $25/head. The show was Neil Sedaka and the food was pretty good. Only downside was the the mercan beside me spent a lot of time in Belfast as he was one of John Delorean's accountants.

Uruguay has probably even better beef than Argentina, they certainly have some of the best meat processing facilities in the world, a common misconception is that Brazilian and Argentinian beef is exported to here but most South American beef is actually from Uruguay

I've been to Buenos Aires a few times. The restaurants that only serve prime cuts of meat tend to be more touristy but there are some good ones, look out for places called La Cabrera and La Cabrera Norte. More traditional places will serve lots more cuts including offal, sausages and black pudding (when the gauchos killed an animal to eat, they cooked the entire beast rather than just cutting out a fillet steak...) There is a budget place called Siga la Vaca which is good value.

One thing about Argentina is I found it really difficult to get steak cooked rare. Their version of rare I would have called medium. In general they don't seem to like that much "red" left in their meat when cooked.

Perfect compromise for you Mike, there is a small chain of 5/6 restaurants in Madrid called De Maria, they serve up Argentinian beef and if you want it anything other than very rare you need to ask very clearly for it. Delicious and the real plus is that if you just order a main course, they also throw you a welcoming glass of Cava, an amuse bouche or two, gazpacho or similar, small desert & then leave two bottles of unnamed liqueurs on the table for you to have as much or little as you like with your coffee and the coffee is the only thing paid for in addition. All told for me & Mrs T usually works out around €100-€120 and that includes a bottle of Luis Canas Rioja, the crianza being as good as most reservas you'll taste.

You don't visit Vegas-- you experience it .Went one year in January for 4-5 days-- it's no city for old men .

Believe it or not it only rains about 5 days a year -- we got one of them.

You don't have to gamble if you don't want to and if you can't buy it Vegas it can't be bought - every kind of Shop under the Sun

Fermont street is not to be missed

Locals say the best Casinos are in Fermont Street because the house take is lower than on the Strip .

You still lose it just takes longer .

Me I came out 40 Dollars ahead .most don't.

A visit to the Grand Canyon is like a visit to the Giants Causeway - do it - done it -- am I better for it ?

Not a lot there just a lie around and sleep place or a meal, it's not a place I would go for a week but certainly would spend an afternoon in it, magnificent scenery and lovely people.

Well I could easily spend a week there. Canoeing round the island, reading a couple of books, helping some local with their gardening, snorkling, fishing (and cooking your own fresh fish), wandering along every path on the island and just topping up the alcohol level every so often sounds like a great chill out week.

Aye had to settle for Spain, too many cars .............well in the parts Ron'n frequents. I'm adding remote villages to my itineraries, Busot in the mountains above Alicante & more recently Velez Rubio inland from the Sierra Nevada. Mind you I've got Madrid, Toledo and Granada for the nth time later in the year. :D
