From a law firm who specialise in trademarks and copyright law, Ashers would be breaking the law to do the Bert and Ernie cake, the link below is USA based but it is the same here as long as there has not ben a law change within the past couple of years.

Well I didn't know about the potential copyright issue and it wasn't mentioned anywhere else but maybe it was known.

The only issue I was aware of was in relation to the question of potential discrimination.

I think there's a difference between not making a cake for a gay person, and not making a cake because the outcome would be considered offensive.

Surely the discrimination was on the basis of what the cake said rather than who asked for it?

It would appear that this is not the only cake issue, it's also being tested in other countries , looks like an organised gay militant attack on religious conscience, like a big gay cake war and now crossed the Atlantic to NI.

Of course it is. You know what though, it would all melt away if folk stopped deluding themselves into thinking that they can stop the progression of civilisation. Almost every right that we think of as standard human and / or civil rights today had to be fought for against folk who wanted to deny people freedom. This is the same. In a hundred years time folk will look back to the early 21st century and think how oppressive and backward society was then because they tried to deny such a standard right as that for same sex marriage. Someday we may decide to have a look at human history and decide to take some learnings from it. Once we do that it will signal our intent to be truly free.
