President

Post by Shan »

I see another one of your lot has decided he wants to be President of Éire. We've had Mary McAleese for the last 14 years and now Martin McGuinness is looking to get in on the act.

Feck we've already taken Gerry off yer hands and now, maybe, we'll take wee Marty as well.

Wonder is there anyway we can send ye up a couple of right gowls from our political ranks just to even things up a bit.

>TH >TH

That said it will be interesting to see what kind of a vote he can get. I couldn't hazard a guess really but he will probably pick up a lot of anti-establishment vote given the rest of the candidates being put forward are a shower of feckin langers. Presumably SF don't actually expect to win but want to increase their profile down these parts.

By the way if this is likely to cause trouble please delete if necessary. I'm not looking for a fight and I am not trying to stir a cauldron. Just something I see as interesting from an analysis perspective of where we are and where we are going for one thing.

Were going to ship the whole lot of them down your way Shan. Could you find a nice easy job for Ian Jr or Ian Óg as he is apparently willing to call himself.

Ah you'd be heard pressed to find anything young Ian would be capable of doing. At least his father could have been used as a town crier or a foghorn or something.

What is it with politicians of every hue and cry in seemingly every country. Does something happen to them when they get their arsé on the seat or are they born that way.

Who else is in the running now Shan, of some of the langers mentioned earlier I think Marty would have been the best choice

If I was allowed to vote in the Irish Presidential election I would vote for the only real republican in the field ,namely one Michael D Higgins formerly Labour TD for Galway West. Much more a man of integrity and empathy should be Irelands talisman than Coco the Nazi Clown .

We have
Michael D Higgins(Labour)...Too old
Gay Mitchell(Fine Gael).....Too snakey and a right wing RC. Careerist of the lowest order.
Mary Davis(Independent)....Technically independent but a Fianna Fáiler in secret. Charity worker. Not impressive.
Sean Gallagher(Independent)....Technically independent but a Fianna Fáiler until last year...mmm got out just in time before announcing his intention to run and then tried to hide his membership so is obviously dodge.

Now we have Marty and Dana trying to join in and there is talk of David Norris trying to get back in the race after losing out because of his letter of pleading for leniency on official state paper for his lover in his sentencing for his conviction for statutory rape.....

To be fair to Norris he didn't try to interfere in the justice system as his letter was after the guilty verdict handed down but this together with his documented views on pederasty have not gone down well. Norris at times seems to be living in a different reality where he seems to think because he is a thespian and Trinity professor his "eccentric" views should not be a matter of concern for people not fully acquainted with the Greek Classical period. Some would call him a buffoon. Others suggest he is like a member of the aristocracy but one with a liberal social conscience. Guy can talk all day though and he has a kind of infectious character. I know somebody who gave him a lift one time from Dublin to Galway and he said Norris didn't stop talking the whole way there.

Pat Cox the dirty filthbag tried to get in there also. This guy has changed political parties whenever it was in his favour. He obviously has no principles. Joined Fine Gael a few months ago when he thought they were going to give him the nomination but he should have known FG are even filthier than he is. Good enough for the fecker.

The dirtiest of all, Fianna Fáil, are still weighing up their options and will decide tomorrow as far as I know if they are standing a candidate. As far as I know Norris needs their backing but would run as an independent so if they decide to go their own way or for Dana he will be screwed.

The Dubs tend to vote for their own so Mitchell will get a lot of votes there unless Norris gets back in. As for the rest I think Norris, despite the controversy, would still get 20% at least nationwide. If he fails to make it those votes could go anywhere. Certainly Marty will pick up a lot of votes. Some as anti-establishment as I said, some because of disillusionment, some just to píss off the likes of the Indo and RTE and some because people are impressed with the way he has helped to make things work at Stormont I imagine. That said a lot of people I spoke to today said they wouldn't even consider giving him a vote and don't have any interest in listening to anything he has to say.....I suppose Jackie will accuse them of being Anti-Ulster.

Now I bet you're sorry you asked.

Has H'woodmike been mentioned at any point? He could certainly bank on the feminist vote.

He would be my choice if he was younger as Labour would be my party of choice in the absence of any real Socialist Party. He'll be 78 when the term is up. Not that he is incapable of movement these days but I'd prefer a younger person representing the country around the world.

Dermot Morgan did a great sketch taking the píss out of him years ago. The stuff being discussed is the incident concerning Labour Party TD Emmet Stagg who was found loitering in the Phoenix Park, a known area for male prostitutes, by the Gardai in 1994.

I suppose if he did get the job a Biography of some sorts would be in order maybe along the lines of
"Call me Mr President-Confessions of a Bogside Kneecapper"]
It would be in his best interests to win, as the President, on the advice of the Government, has "the right of pardon and the power to commute or remit punishment" so he could self administer :terror:

Usually alternate my first preference vote between David Norris & Shane Ross (for the Trinity Senate seats) and hope David Norris changes his mind and does decide to run for President.

Certainly not, you can take the whole shower of them if you want.

He won't get in anyway sadly, still lying about how long he was in the IRA, including lying to the Saville Inquiry. And lying politicians will never get anywhere..........
