Tommy Fleetwood for the Irish Open and Open Championship.

Good God man, have you ever golfed a ball? "In contention" is not an issue, breach of the rules is, if you do it, you call it. Simple. A man does not gain kudos for doing the right thing in golf at any particular time, he does it all the time irrespective of circumstances.

In any event, he obviously understands that his good name is more important than any given trophy or cash prize. If you are spotted doing something by an eagle eyed viewer & have not called it yourself, you are held to be a fu'cking cheat, like VJ Singh or Tiger Woods, in his case both on & off the course.
NEVER MOVE ON. Years on, I cannot ever watch Ireland with anything but indifference, I continue to wish for the imminent death of Donal Spring, the FIRFUC's executioner of Wee Paddy & Wee Stu, and I hate the FIRFUCs with undiminished passion.

Did you ever wonder there was so much money in professional golf ?

According to the Golfer's Companion (2005 ) edition

26.2 million Americans play Golf --American golfers spend 19.7 BILLION on fees and 4.7 BILLION on equipment(clubs ,balls ,bags, gloves ,shoes etc) Of that 4.7 billion how much is profit .

Of the 26.2 million who play only 3.5(approx)million are non whites .

The game is played world wide by many millions more compare that the number who play rugby .

Are golf and snooker the only sports/games where cheatin' is not actively or tacitly encouraged?

The fact is to cheat at golf is to cheat your self .

Since you are not playing against your fellow man but the course and the elements .

Thus your trying to get round a course in the lowest number of shots therefore what you claim to have gone round the course is really an act of self delusion and therefore meaningless .

I think the boys at the Open were playing against fellow men.

Merv that is a yes and no

at the end of the four rounds it is the player with the lowest score who wins . He who plays the course and elements best .

Match play is of course a different game since your opponent can apply pressure and and a little gamesmanship by asking you to putt rather than concede a hole . Done at the right time it can induce the yips in the best of players .
