In Fairness to England
It has to be said, this has been an utterly marvellous RWC, and England have organised it brilliantly. They even went so far as to bring in a top class Ulsterman to sort out the logistics & he has sacrificed weeks of his life to help out.
The organisation has been excellent & sensible by and large:
- Scotland at St.Jim's Park on a Saturday lunchtime - bonus point day for the publicans of Newcastle
- Want to get 90000 to Wembley but not have England play there? Easy ask Ireland to play there.
- Want to fill the Olympic Stadium on a Sunday night against trash, ditto, call Ireland.
- Throw a few half decent games to Leicester, a few lesser ones down to the yokels in Exeter
- Have the group of amusing early death at Twickenham, Saturday primetime, 3 weeks in a row. Spot on.
- Great crowds, albeit the usual boorish English at Twickenham - drowning out the Fijian Cibi with that famous spiritual so beloved of all English negroes, was appalling hosting & pure scumbaggery
- That apart England have been fabulous hosts being incredibly generous, especially to the poor ould injury affected Welsh.
- Even ITV/BT haven't been quite as rancid as in the past.
All in all an excellent RWC so far with very few humiliations considering the usual disadvantages and short turnarounds by the wee people.
Let's hope the knockouts make it a splendid RWC in every sense. I suspect we will see the Rugby Championship teams playing off from the semi-finals onward.
Very well done England.

NEVER MOVE ON. Years on, I cannot ever watch Ireland with anything but indifference, I continue to wish for the imminent death of Donal Spring, the FIRFUC's executioner of Wee Paddy & Wee Stu, and I hate the FIRFUCs with undiminished passion.
Re: In Fairness to England
Yep, on the face of it it has been very successful. The only place they fell down was choosing the King Power Stadium over Welford Road. Besides that, can't complain.
You haven't seen me at my best yet. Let's be honest, you probably never will.

Re: In Fairness to England
not sure how Ireland can realistically hope to host the RWC in whatever year it is unless we play a large percentage of games in the rest of the UK… The stadia have been excellent and even some of the so called 'smaller' games are all being played in grounds that make Kingspan look small… Even with the GAA coming to the rescue.

Wales must be the side in the R.W.C. who have played more home games than any other. Unfair nonsense to buy votes I guess.

Didn't know where to post this. Here seems as good as any if we're looking for good things about the RWC. Moment of the RWC so far - prop Johnny Redelinghuys being given the final conversion attempt in his last match for Namibia.

My moment of the RWC so far was Canadian likeable thug Cudmore sneaking into the France tactical huddle. Brilliant!solidarity wrote:Didn't know where to post this. Namibia let an old prop kick his last kick
England haf the exact same chance with easter, in front of the posts, yet gave it to their 10

The flip side would have been that giving it to Easter to kick would have been an insult to Uruguay. For once England were right.Russ wrote:Just goes to show the difference in culture and camaraderiesolidarity wrote:Didn't know where to post this. Romania had lost the game so they could do what they liked.
Ulster did that a few years back with Kieran Dawson and it didn't go down well.

The game was done. No harm in letting a player try to add that 1C to his cvSnipe Watson wrote:The flip side would have been that giving it to Easter to kick would have been an insult to Uruguay. Re: In Fairness to England
Totally disagree, Cockatrice. As the big stadia, there are Croke and Lansdowne: as smaller rugby stadia, you have Thomond (26,500), Ravenhill (18,200 or possibly bigger), RDS (24,000 by then). They can probably make the Sportsground in Galway bigger than Sandy Park at least. Then, from GAA, there are (or will be) stadia holding 35,000 or more in Belfast (yes Casement will be built by then), Clones, Tipperary, Killarney, Galway, Limerick and Cork.Cockatrice wrote:not sure how Ireland can realistically hope to host the RWC in whatever year it is unless we play a large percentage of games in the rest of the UK… The stadia have been excellent and even some of the so called 'smaller' games are all being played in grounds that make Kingspan look small… Even with the GAA coming to the rescue.
So, absolutely no problem.

Re: In Fairness to England
The average attendance for the pool stages was 49,146 per match. So effectively every match so far has filled the Avia but who knows maybe the Irish Government will fund the rebuild of GAA's grounds around the country bringing them into the 21st C with 40,000 plus all seater stadia just to help out.

Re: In Fairness to England
That is bending the stats. Twickenham/Wembly/Millenium Stadium hold close to double that than that and obviously increase the average gate figure. There was plenty of atmosphere for pool stage matches at small places like Exeter and Gloucester and Ireland could easily find bigger venues than that.Cockatrice wrote:The average attendance for the pool stages was 49,146 per match. Re: In Fairness to England
Attendances have been phenomenal. Group A gave the group stages a bit of excitement. Quarter final lineup is okay but you could see SA, Oz and the Boks win reasonably comfortably. Hopefully not, and we'll get a few edgy games with France turning up, Wales overcoming their injury problems and the Scots playing out of their skin...
Climb up onto the top of your house and start screaming: 'stand up for the Ulstermen, stand.......'
