So, a doddle against Italy
Luke Fitzgerald - discuss.
NEVER MOVE ON. Years on, I cannot ever watch Ireland with anything but indifference, I continue to wish for the imminent death of Donal Spring, the FIRFUC's executioner of Wee Paddy & Wee Stu, and I hate the FIRFUCs with undiminished passion.
Re: So, a doddle against Italy
Stick him on the wing. No, full-back. No, inside centre.
Ah who cares, just play him as a one man back line. Sure he's that good he'll manage to pull it off.

You haven't seen me at my best yet. Let's be honest, you probably never will.

I'm sure Lukewarm will be given his 15th chance to try and play himself into the team.

I want us to score tries
Ergo Luke Guff is the man for this

Zebo, Earls, Payne, Henshaw, D Kearney, Sexton, Murray, Heaslip, SOB, POM, POC, Hendy, Ross, Best, Healy.
McGrath, Cronin, White, D Ryan. henry, Redser, Mads, Fitz.
Let Rob Kearney rest for the France game if not fully fit. Would prefer Bowe to Luke Fitz on the bench but reckon Joe will go with Luke, even if just to wind up the UAFC faithful
He could go with Bowe to start given the type of game they will play and the Itai's not having a Johnny May or Ashton type to trouble him. Think that would be harsh on Earls though at this stage.

Re: So, a doddle against Italy
Earls got a HIA against Romania so I can see him being rested and Tommy getting another run-out.
The tactics against Italy will likely involve a lot more kicking to contest balls, as will the game against France.

Re: So, a doddle against Italy
I can see the logic for resting JP and playing say Henshaw and Cave, but at the same time i'm sure Joe must also be thinking that he would like his first choice combination out there together before the France game.
could go either way.
could go either way.
Re: So, a doddle against Italy
There's the potential of having both Henshaw and Payne on the bench. Fitzgerald can shift about to accommodate, or Payne can cover 15 if necessary.

Re: So, a doddle against Italy
Payne and Earls have started 2 games already. Maybe they could do with being rested, along with R. Kearney if he has injury questions. The question for me is if Joe will start Sexton. We don't actually need him v Italy as we saw in the 6n. I'd hold him until the France game if I was selecting.
Murray, Jackson, D. Kearney, Henshaw, Cave, Bowe, Zebo.
Healy, Best, Ross, Hendo, POC, POM, Henry, Heaslip.
McGrath, Cronin, White, Ryan, SOB, Reddan, Madigan, Fitz.
However I expect Joe to start Sexton, Fitz, Payne and SOB. If he does, well fair enough.
I think SOB is better as an impact player. Allow him 30 minutes or so which I think is all he really has judging on games over the last season. Henry offers more IMO over a longer period but is not an impact player and neither are the other two backrowers. This balanced backrow frees up Heaslip a bit to do some carrying as well IMO as he won't have to do the 7's job.

It is a man's own mind, not his enemy or foe, that lures him to evil ways.
Re: So, a doddle against Italy
Benching SOB for the Italy game would a)show that good form is rewarded after Henry's performance last week and also maybe give SOB a bit of extra focus amd hunger, as he has not been at his best recently. A fully firing SOB for France would be great though!
I would expect to see more or less a full team, bar any injury doubts, with key players for France coming off early if the game is in the bag. I'm not convinced our reserves are going to be enough to beat Italy comfortably.
Unless Ireland somehw blitz them at the beginning, then I'd expect the Italians to still be within touching distance after 60, with Ireland only pulling away towards the end to win by 20 odd.

Correct Mike which is why I expect to see Ireland's best reclaimer of kicked ball, one T Bowe, play both games. Albeit the opposition weren't challenging FibberJose will have been comforted by Tommy scoring one when most wouldn't but just as importantly, his competing for ball in that air.
It's such an intrinsic facet of Fibberball that I'd put Agen-le-tete's life on Bowe being in the 14 jumper and Kearney minor on the left.
For my money despite Earls showing some form & Fitzgerald being teacher's pet, suspect the other two have always been Fibber's choice in the absence of Ireland's best winger.

What a fine line there is in coaching.
So far I think Joe has done a good job mixing it up, resting players and keeping everyone happy. Now we get to the business end you just hope he knows his best 15/23 and that they have had sufficient time together. Which is why I think he probably won't go far beyond the 6N squad from now on in, other than Hendy obviously .
Contrast with Lancaster who was still tinkering for England's biggest game in ages, until the next one.
To quote "Spinal Tap": "It's a fine line between stupid and clever."

Never wrestle with a pig. You end up covered in muck and the pig loves it.
Re: So, a doddle against Italy
Having played the kicking game in the 6ns and the game being a close run result the Italians may be well prepared for that approach a change could give them a few problems play Jackson and run at from deep going wide to give the wings a chance

Like that will happen, Rum'n have you been watching Ireland??? Bart/Shan who said anything about resting Payne? Just don't expect to see him unless he has relatives in Fiji.
