Current best Ireland XV

Post by Spiffsson »

Never mind who is in or out of the RWC squad. This is what I think would be something like the best Ireland XV that we could field currently, never mind player reputations :

Zebo
D. Kearney McCloskey Henshaw Trimble
Sexton Murray
Healy Best Ross
Henderson Ryan
Henry Heaslip POM

Bench : McGrath Strauss White POC SOB Reddan Jackson Earls.

Yes - that's right, POC and SOB dropped to the bench and asked to up their game. Although I would be tempted to start SOB over Heaslip. Earls could push for a starting spot too.

FFS Spiffer you're as mad as a box of frogs.

BR of course you are correct ......... even if only because Payne doesn't play 15 any more.

Sexton
Murray

Henderson-Heaslip-O'Brien
Ryan-POC
Ross-Best-Healy

This is obviously liberal with injuries et cetera.

Anyone suggesting that Heaslip doesn't feature in Ireland's current strongest XV need their head seeing to... Up there with the "drop David Wallace" brigade from days gone by in terms of gibberish. The desire to ditch Rob Kearney is a nonsense, too.

Of the guys actually in the squad...

R. Kearney; D. Kearney; J. Payne; R. Henshaw; K. Earls; J. Sexton; C. Murray
C. Healy; R. Best; M. Ross; I. Henderson; P. O'Connell; P. O'Mahony; S. O'Brien; J. Heaslip
S. Cronin; J. McGrath; N. White; D. Ryan; C. Henry; E. Reddan; P. Jackson; S. Zebo

Including guys not already in the squad...

R. Kearney; A. Trimble; J. Payne; R. Henshaw; D. Kearney; J. Sexton; C. Murray
C. Healy; R. Best; M. Ross; I. Henderson; P. O'Connell; P. O'Mahony; S. O'Brien; J. Heaslip
S. Cronin; J. McGrath; N. White; D. Ryan; C. Henry; E. Reddan; P. Jackson; K. Earls

neil I go with you except PoC is there by reputation , I would start henderson and Toner with Ryan on the bench Why

I dont see PoC as capable of covering back like Ryan did on saturday and Toner gets the nod because he provides Best with a decoy to stabilise his throw . Without Toner the pressure gets to Best's throw.

Seems everyone is agreed that Tommy is woefully out of form.

I'd go with Baldy's team.

I think despite his struggle to find some form, POC has to start. He is a leader of men and there is no stand out captain in your team. I also haven't seen enough from Ryan fo suggest he is ready to lock antlers with Retallick et al without being exposed.
