Re: Ireland's 45 Man RWC Squad Named
Hansen the current AB coach's contract is up after the Lions tour in 2017. Schimdt's extension puts him perfectly in a position to lead the Lions in NZ and have a shot at the ABs job especially if the Lions under his leadership won the series. Ireland winning the RWC would also convince the NZRU that he is a worthy candidate I'm sure.
Another possibility is that he could go back to NZ in 2017 to take over one of the Super Rugby sides with a long term goal of the ABs job as referred to above.

I'm not quite certain I agree with that Buck. Irish rugby gave him his first proper head coach job & now his first crack at establishing his credentials as an international coach. Not that these things matter in professional circles but the argument could be made that actually Irish rugby has made FibberJoe's name.BuckRogers wrote:They didn't sack Henry in 2007 when he failed to win the RWC. Obviously this does not preclude them sacking Hansen but they seem to be a more stable and less reactive organisation than they were prior to Henry's appointment.Cap'n Grumpy wrote:Had crossed my mind, but if (when?) the ABs fail to win the world cup this Autumn, will they be looking for their new coach then rather than in two years?Neill_M wrote:Might be interested in heading back to NZ in 2 yrs time to try and get the ABs job after this deal expires.
You could both be referring to Joe returning to NZ prior to any potential AB coaching gig as the AB's seemingly prefer to appoint a coach who has coached in NZ prior to any ascension to the AB job.
As some may or may not know Joe's son is quite poorly and I imagine this makes things extremely difficult from both a personal and professional point of view.
I suspect Joe is putting family very firmly first in this extension and rightly so. He's returned us two successive 6N titles, he owes Irish rugby and its supporters very little even at this early stage.
I'd contend he owe's Irish rugby rather a lot. Of course happily it has been very much mutually beneficial , I just don't subscribe to the current fad of saying "xxxx owes yyyy nothing", much as I understand many of my fellow Munster supporters being less than happy at Paulie swanning off for a couple of years glorification on big wages, whilst others trot out the "owes nothing bullshit".
FibberJoe would not enjoy his current status without Leinster/Ireland, Paulie would not be an official Ligind but for the men he grew up playing with and the culture & organisation at Munster that gave him as much as he has given us.
"Owes nothing" my ould hole.

Given my assessment of the contribution PoC gives on the field ( in physical effort ) he could be doing Munster a favour
His leadership has never been in doubt but a leader behind the front lines for 80% of a game is the equivalent of a World War 1 general.
If 1/2 the spectators are like those around me they only watch 20 % of the game .20 % of their time is spent going for a drink and 60% talking about anything and everything other than the game .

Oafish Rum'n. 2015 6 Nations player of the tournament. Not "leader" of the tournament.rumncoke wrote:Given my assessment of the contribution PoC gives on the field ( in physical effort ) he could be doing Munster a favour

For those interested - 1st warm up game on Saturday v Wales in Cardiff is on BBC 1 Wales (Sky no 952). Highlights on Sat night on RTE(8pm)/Sky(9:30pm). The other warm up games are on Sky.

Should be a few Ulster players involved in this, Trimble and Jackson for a startNeill_M wrote:For those interested - 1st warm up game on Saturday v Wales in Cardiff is on BBC 1 Wales (Sky no 952). Highlights on Sat night on RTE(8pm)/Sky(9:30pm). The other warm up games are on Sky.

Don't foresee Jackson starting in any of the warm up games he might get a half or two before cut time but not starting
Trimble has a something to prove "fitness-wise" and therefore will start in the first two warmers .
"Fitness-wise " on this occasion is not just physical but mental and match fit .Its nine months since he has had to to put the body on the line .
My real interest is to see how Joe selects the backrow do Henry and Henderson start or do both sit on the bench or will he select horses for courses .

Would think that this warm up will have some fringe players involved to look at the options for reserves plus the likes of Trimble and Henry to give them some game time, wouldn't be surprised if he has a few wildcards on the bench.

Re: Ireland's 45 Man RWC Squad Named
First two warm up games have to be about testing fringe players and getting those who have been out for a while up to speed.
Ireland don't have the most arduous opening two games against Canada and Romania so you would really only want to be building up to the 'full' team being sent out against Italy.
I imagine that guys like Daverage, Trimble, Cave, Earls, Jackson, Henry, Donncha Ryan will see game time early doors to try and establish some sort of suitability.
I would hazard a guess at something like-
D.Kearney, Trimble, Earls, Cave, McFadden, Jackson, Marmion, Conan, Henry, Dom Ryan, Donncha Ryan, Touhy, Furlong, Strauss, Kilcoyne
Herring, Bent, Ross, Henderson, Murphy, Reddan, Madigan, Jones

Don't be stupid, Rum (I know, I know! But I live in hope) - of course Jackson will start at least 1 of the warm-up games. He's there as the reserve fly-half to Sexton, if he's not envisioned to be starting the minnow pool games and stepping up to 1st-choice fly-half in Sexton's absence, he wouldn't be there at all.
It's the hope that kills you.
Re: Ireland's 45 Man RWC Squad Named
Wouldn't doubt you have more or less got the team for this week there Buck.

Could be something in that BUck but I sincerely hope Fibber doesn't send out a team shorn of regulars, I'd be happy to see a half & half selection.
Away from home and a tanking is not what you want. I hope he picks a team that is there to win & not just as experimental. He seems to me a man who likes his W in the wins column, I suspect he will go stronger.................... unless of course you are working from leaked info.
