Most countries were happy enough to go to the 1936 Olympics in Berlin, so a wee rugby tour wouldn't have been anything out of the ordinary.

Doubt you if anybody in pre war Germany would have had the nerve to book the All Blacks though ...
Volunteer at an animal sanctuary; it will fill you with joy , despair, but most of all love, unconditional love of the animals.

Their kit would have gone down a treat with the SS though.

Portugal at Ravers BR?

64-0 rings a bell
I was thinking an Ulster development/age-group XV playing out in Spain. So it wasn't a case of a professional 'club' beating an international team. Although I would suspect the Spanish were missing their professional players too.

I'll have to go digging.

As for the IRB being responsible. The IRB is not FIFA. The IRBs actions are by consensus of the leading unions. The IRB relies upon the Unions to further the international aims of rugby. The NZRU facilitate plenty of development for the pacific nations, it just seems that when it comes to playing test matches, they prefer to maximise their returns.

What about the IRB nations Cup. Why aren't there more teams in that? Just Romania, Russia, Uruguay and Emerging Ireland as far as I can see. Surely it would be better for the like of Portugal, Spain etc to take part in that rather than an "Emerging Ireland" side.

The point is to give the 'lesser' nations a chance to play against the established nations (albeit not their 1st XVs).

All Blacks will play a test in Samoa in July 2015

Would really like to hear Zapp Brannigan's opinion on this

It's good to see NZ playing a leading tier 2 team.

While I think the tier 1 nations need to continue (restart) sending their A/development teams to play the tier 2 and 3 countries in the mini-tournaments, a country like Samoa deserves a regular shot at the leading test teams.

Australia need to follow suit and they also need to get an A side out and about on the development circuit.

England footballers offered Nazi salutes to the furher in 1938 when they played Germany.
Sport and politics are a lethal combination.

I don't see why those A matches cannot be denoted as test matches.

They are playing the tier 2 test side.

Bit like the so called wolf hounds in eastern europe this summer. Could easily have been classed as test matches

But they are NOT the test team!

For example when Emerging Ireland were playing in Romania, our test side was in Argentina. (and the Wolfhounds were mosty in rehab ;) )

So?

Teams play weakened all the time.

This is the team Ireland chose to send, that's all
