Re: 2014 Autumn Internationals
The English game has always been based on forward power with the occasional back who had class .
At the moment they have a couple of backs who have some pace and given sufficient space can make count .
The English scrum only dominates if a ref fails to ensure proper scrummaging and allows them to bore in and disrupt the scrum with illegal binding .

Similarly the English maul if frequently illegal with players coming in the side in front of the ball carrier instead of behind the ball .

Jean de Villiers' injury looked terrible. Hope he makes a full and speedy recovery.

Wales won a match ...
Re: 2014 Autumn Internationals
Lacey is getting worse
A Yellow card for NOTHING
And failed to penalise Wales for feeding the scrum all day long

He was screaming in pain! Eeeek.shamalicious wrote:Jean de Villiers' injury looked terrible. Hope he makes a full and speedy recovery.
That looked like it will need a lot of surgery and rehab tbh. He's no spring chicken either.
Never wrestle with a pig. You end up covered in muck and the pig loves it.
Re: 2014 Autumn Internationals
That yellow card was beyond a joke. Referees are scared of in the air contests and there is now a perception that someone is to blame every time a player hits the deck in an awkward position.Bangors wrote:Lacey is getting worse

You haven't seen me at my best yet. Let's be honest, you probably never will.

Re: 2014 Autumn Internationals
Having not seen any of the Wales match I put it on.
Within 6 seconds I knew why Wales won
1. John Lacey
2. JP Doyle
3. GEORGE CLANCY
These 3 are liabilities.
Watch any major upset now in world rugby.
It comes from these 3, and comes from them not allowing rugby games to break out.

Totally agree Russ.
Springbox and Australia have their scrums to blame for their defeats yesterday as well.
One thing they will have to learn is they must have a decent scrum against NH sides and NH refs or its a long day.
Other than that Wales or England weren't creative because they didn't have to be in order to win.
Nothing therefore was learned playing wise from either but you felt both had to win to have some hope going into the world cup.
I thought Australia were a joy to watch though.
Their lines of running and handling were light years ahead of anything we have seen in the NH.
From the AIs we know that New Zealand are still very much the team to beat but thanks to Joe Schmidt we can consider ourselves up there with the best of the rest.
Not getting too carried away as 2007 is still way too fresh in the memory.

I'm getting pretty sick of this shíte of giving penalties and cards every time someone is touched in the air. We will end up in a situation where we can't compete at all off the ground which is a load of ballix to me.
It is a man's own mind, not his enemy or foe, that lures him to evil ways.

Re: 2014 Autumn Internationals
IRB need to clarify what exactly is permissible now. ATM it seems if you can jump first and higher (even if you are not best placed to catch the ball, you will win. Better still if you can jump into an opposing player you'll get a penalty unless he turns and runs the other way. Better still, if you can land on your shoulder on the way down, you could create a one man advantage for the rest if the game.
I've noticed a change in emphasis at mauls, where ref's seem quicker to call 'once/use' although I'm not sure all ref's have the same definitions in their heads. Has there been a directive on this? If so, not before time.
After that can we sort out the 'not held' debacle? Huge increase in tackled players playing on in recent times.

It has got to the stage it is a fine line to being "not held" or "not releasing" the playerBR wrote: After that can we sort out the 'not held' debacle? Huge increase in tackled players playing on in recent times.

Exactly - the two should be mutually exclusive, not a grey area.
