Saracens chairman Nigel Wray believes his club are being punished for supplying players to England and wants the Rugby Football Union to compensate them properly for supporting the national side.
Saracens, like the other Premiership clubs, receive £190,000 for each player they supply to the Elite Player Squad (EPS). However, only around £120,000 of that stays with the club, with the remainder being shared out among the rest of the Premiership teams under a system that spreads the wealth, described as “smoothing”.
There are moves within Premier Rugby Ltd, the umbrella organisation, to right what is seen as a financial wrong using a “credit” system, but Wray is advocating a higher starting fee from the RFU as one way of rewarding those clubs who produce England players and then lose them during international periods.
The EPS money is aimed at allowing clubs to bring in replacement players as cover. However, Wray argues that with up to eight Saracens players making the elite squad, attracting the kind of talent needed on the current allowance is simply not possible.
“The compensation we get is only two thirds because the other third gets distributed through Premier Rugby to the other clubs in the league. You cannot sign a back-up player of the quality needed for the two thirds that is left
“In a way, you get punished for providing England players as you are still having to battle against other very good Premiership sides without much support from the RFU. What is really ridiculous is the financial incentive to include English qualified players because it doesn’t take into consideration that the match squad you choose could be without eight players who are away playing for England! It’s a complete farce and must be changed.”

Bahahahahahaha
Wants more money and wants to buy in more players
Bahahahahahaha
Probably wants the playoff system scrapped too as that helps teams most affected by international call ups
