Once again the season draws to a close with the opportunity to get our red hands on a trophy… a season that began with the kids winning in Bayonne and holding the mighty Leicester during the summer holidays – paving the way for a remarkable winning run, culminating in one of the most complete Ulster performances for many years at Franklins Gardens.
All this, against the hugely distressing deaths of Nevin Spence, his brother Graham and father Noel.
Despite a New Year stutter, a first competitive victory in France kept the momentum going and whilst we did indeed #MakeTwickenhamhome, European glory was not to be. Solace was to be found in earning a Pro 12 play-off place.
The season has been marked by the sheer numbers of players used as a result of a long injury list and, more positively, international call ups – with Ireland debuts for tyros Paddy Jackson, Iain Henderson, Craig Gilroy and Luke Marshall…. and a fleeting but well deserved recognition for Paul Marshall.
As a result, hitherto unsung heroes like Michael Allen, Lewis Stevenson, Michael McComish, Neil McComb and Michael Heaney emerged, Niall O’Connor kicked his goals and the peripatetic John Afoa and classy Robbie Diack provided the consistency. When it came to the crunch matches Rory Best, Ruan Pienaar, Tom Court, Andrew Trimble, Dan Tuohy and Chris Henry delivered. Jared Payne and Tommy Bowe showed what we had missed in seasons past…. and throughout, Nick Williams provided a healthy supply of head bobbing try scoring. The end of the season has seen new red hands being raised for selection with Stuart Olding and Richard Lutton to the fore.
So many players…. but only one can receive the URSC Player of the Season for 2012/13
So, who will follow previous winners?
2005 Matt McCullough
2006 Justin Harrison
2007 Neil Best
2008 Tommy Bowe
2009 Stephen Ferris
2010 Chris Henry
2011 Johann Muller and

Mad that Pienaars never won that
There was never a guard nor a customs man, got his nose inside that transit van.

Perhaps if there hadn't been such a big 'sympathy'* vote for P3.Gael wrote:Mad that Pienaars never won that

Feels a bit daft now that p3 has one and not The Saint. I suppose my "one year ago self" would argue blind that P3 was the only possible candidate thoughBR wrote:Perhaps if there hadn't been such a big 'sympathy'* vote for P3.Gael wrote:Mad that Pienaars never won that
