Cheetahs v Ulster MotM
An exciting game for the neutrals.... but I was disappointed. The Ulster report card would say, "could do better...!"
But!, who was yer man of the match?

I don't believe it myself but I'm going for Shanahan.
A night and day performance from last week. Ran great support lines for his two scores, notable improvement on his box kicks and his decision making when running the game was methodical / logical evidenced by his pass distribution to ball carriers and when shipping out to Burns.
Well done weeD, prove me wrong and back that performance up.

I thought Rea was really physical and looks to have bulked up. A few penalties given away but he is probably a tad rusty.nonplussed wrote:Matty Rea for me.

I have my own tv channel, what have you got?

Rea is 25 he would need to kick on this season.Dave wrote:I thought Rea was really physical and looks to have bulked up. A few penalties given away but he is probably a tad rusty.nonplussed wrote:Matty Rea for me.

Rea did well last year until he got injured. In fact whilst many people thought he did not look up to it early on, the coaches last season stuck with him and he started to justify the faith in him. Needs more gametime to allow him to kick on.
Re: Cheetahs v Ulster MotM
I'd agree with that, he's currently behind Coetzee, Murphy, Reidy and Timoney in no particular order. Progress / kicking on would be to get ahead of one of them come end of season.Bart S wrote:UlsterNo9 wrote:Rea is 25 he would need to kick on this season.Dave wrote:I thought Rea was really physical and looks to have bulked up. Re: Cheetahs v Ulster MotM
Unlike the Boss, I was far from disappointed, I thought they would lose and could well have been pointless, so an excellent result for my money meaning the safari ends with a points haul to reflect the performance - if slightly generous for there is much to improve - but 7 out of 10 is a result.
As for MOTM, quite easy really, Shanahan a last played decently, though of course never quite looking authoritative behind ruck or maul, but yet again Cave proves his worth. In a team that often lacks rugby intelligence Cave has it in spades and the usual linebreaks and perfect timing of his passes to Shanners made a big difference to what has been a fairly stuttering attack in the early games. His tackle count, and strangely, breakdown work, continues to impress.
I know (have been told) that Dan had his teams selected for the first 6 games before the season started, though injuries will always make that provisional, so I was never reading anything much into "Cave dropped", I think Cave has to convince Peel but Soper & McFarland are fans.
Anyway well done again Darren.

NEVER MOVE ON. Years on, I cannot ever watch Ireland with anything but indifference, I continue to wish for the imminent death of Donal Spring, the FIRFUC's executioner of Wee Paddy & Wee Stu, and I hate the FIRFUCs with undiminished passion.

Re: Cheetahs v Ulster MotM
Given the circumstances, that was a disaster avoided.
There was no stand out performer for Ulster, too many areas that need tightened up: lineout, set piece fringe defence, breakdown, kicking from hand and composure.
I'll go for McCloskey this week, him and Cave were solid as I'd expect from two senior players in a youthful team.
