No they had to hold their tongues throughout the time he was arrested, charged, pleaded guilty and was convicted but still played on, just in case the publicity prejudiced on-going court proceedings.
How very respectful. Over two years of time elapsed between offence and conviction.

Compare and contrast.

I think his sentence should include "Play him in nets away at Windsor."

To be honest I'd say he was stood down due to pressure from the actual fans rather than some half arsed threat from serial protesters with nowt better to do... but sure let's not as the topography doesn't lend itself to protest. Where would India be if Ghandi had gone "I tell thee what this road's a bit too dusty to sit on."

And if our two eejits had been guilty we'd have supported them being chucked out to feck.

If someone is famous enough anonymity will be near impossible to preserve. It would, however, stop all the articles that name drop him in every tenuous link under the sun. The guy being linked online would have the funds to sue every mofo mentioning him anyway. Hopefully the FBBCNI say something are left bankrupt

Whilst the "accused" may have anonymity in the Republic of Ireland, I would imagine he would need to take out an injunction to prevent him being named in Northern Ireland or elsewhere in UK, given that Irish law would have no jurisdiction here.

I don't know if any court in UK would take into account the law of another country requiring anonymity, when deciding if an injunction were to be allowed.

Not suggesting that anyone names him as a rapist, but merely as under investigation, or charged (if that were to happen). As that would actually be true, he could not successfully sue, and that might influence a newspaper trying to sell copy.

If an injunction was broken however ...

Or have I missed something? EU law?

Personally, I would prefer the law to take its course in the fairest way possible, but editors will want to sell papers. It didn't happen for our 2/4, but does that mean we shouldn't want that for others?

Editors know their entitled, celebrity obsessed plastic readers and they know what they like. I don’t think they’ll leave their readers in the dark for long. Such is the society we live in. Going to Hell, or Connaught really soon and tickets are available.
