If he signs for La Rochelle then it says a lot about Gibbes as a person. He said he was going back to NZ for family reasons and according to Bryn ‘if we knew what it was, you could sympathise’ (something along those lines).

He was tapped up during ASM's visit here.
He invoked a 'head coach' clause in his contract to become assistant coach here.
He didn't want head coach job after Kiss finally pssed off.

The only thing I find odd is that he bothered to play the 'family first' card at all, unless there was genuinely something in it.
