I take it that McFarland has handed in his notice, and this announcement may well be the SRU's opening gambit in a bid to secure compensation from Ulster for letting him leave early.
Bryn Cunningham said at the weekend that they were constrained over what they could so until the wheels were set in motion, so now the cat appears to be out of the bag...
“It was a bizarre happening, an unprecedented situation, a grotesque situation, an almost unbelievable mischance.”
Re: New Coach
Maybe they could take it out of Lancaster's flight money?

With the airmiles we clocked up from Afoa ... Burt would never have to put his hand in his pocket for a flight while he's here.

Re: New Coach
SRU website reporting that Dan McFarland is leaving to take up a Head Coach opportunity . Potentially a very enlightened appointnent. However the SRU also state that he will be required to work his notice and it will be mid Jan 19 before he is released.
Are Ulster yet again to suffer as we did following the appointment of Les Kiss?

Coach confirmed ... when or if he actually starts ... not so much.

This is the SCOTTISH Rugby Union we're alking about.Cornerfleg wrote:Coach confirmed ... when or if he actually starts ... not so much.
The same Scottish Rugby Union who famously charged Budge Pountney £7.50 for the cost of a replacement tie, after he'd given his as a souvenir to a young supporter after a game against the All Blacks.
We'll have to bung them a few quid...

Re: New Coach
McFarland is a very welcome appointment for my money, he coached the Connacht pack who even before Lam Arrived was a tough ould bunch needing a backline. Then the triumph when they won the league against all odds and with Gregor Townie made Weegies into a unit and in the last wee while there has been a big improvement in Scotland.
So not the glamour signing that Kiss was supposedly, but I'll bet anyone their penny to my pound that it works out much better.
As for him not being "free" until January, well typical of what the miserable shower of basterds that the SRU have become. You would imagine 30 pieces of silver will assuage the ire in the SRU's breast, Jan 19 their opening gambit in their quest for a pun'a'flesh. Not surprising that they are unhappy to lose him and will not consider being "noble" in their response, they are a parsimonious shower of skirt wearing kunts after all, what would you expect.
I hope something can be worked out. Very much depends who else is appointed in the meantime as to how bad things could be should the miserable Scottish Basterds hold their ground.

NEVER MOVE ON. Years on, I cannot ever watch Ireland with anything but indifference, I continue to wish for the imminent death of Donal Spring, the FIRFUC's executioner of Wee Paddy & Wee Stu, and I hate the FIRFUCs with undiminished passion.
Re: New Coach
A great appointment and a real rugby man who knows Irish rugby inside out. I believe he will be here after the SRU summer rugby tour. He is giving up a certain World Cup coaching spot to come to us. Good on him
Re: New Coach
Sounds like a good chap. A softly spoken Lionel.
If he joined Glasgow after they won the title and left Connacht before they won it, he should still be hungry for a bit of success.

Re: New Coach
Sounds good, I remember the Connacht lads being sorry to see him go and Gregor Townsend is no mug either, the January thing is the only sickener - perhaps Bryn was holding back the announcement to give the Scots time to get a replacement? Murray Kinsela seems to think McFarland will be with Ulster for preseason-
I'd give Bryn the benefit of the doubt after the fiasco with Kiss.
Link-http://www.the42.ie/dan-mcfarland-ulste ... 9-Apr2018/The SRU say McFarland will serve a nine-month notice period before leaving his job with Scotland under head coach Gregor Townsend, but The42 understands he will be free to leave for Belfast as soon as a replacement is appointed.
