Only a big win for Stade Rochellais will cement the end of the reign of terror

La Rochelle are potentially too good a team for Ulster to consider even an absolute thumping anything other than bad luck.

Comical Leslie says they are a good side but we are a better side.

They shipped 38 points at basement outfit Oyonnax at the weekend to share the spoils.

I'd never subscribe to that view Russ but let's put it this way if we did get thrashed its a win of sorts.
I don't expect miracles but over the years when you consider the cream of Europe have left here with their tails between their legs against some average Ulster teams, it wouldn't shock me.
However this Ulster side is as average as they come and it will require a herculean effort in contact areas for us to be remotely competitive.

As someone mentioned, the home loss to an unmotivated Bordeaux side last year with hardly firing a shot was something we haven't really witnessed before at home in Europe where we do expect to win.
Not sure if we haven't even gone backwards since then.
If that is the benchmark we are stuffed and there should be bags packed for certain people..

It wasn't their best team to be fair - more like the 1.5 XV. Their away form in the T14 is relatively decent (3 wins, 1 draw, 4 losses) in a league where sides focus on the home games and send the 3rds etc for the away games. La Rochelle one of the few who actually try away from home.

In the Heineken, they easily beat Quins away, but were v average in Coventry before Christmas.

It's a cliché, but if they show up with the right approach to the game - they should win with something to spare.

Can anyone see us stopping La Rochelle from scoring? They will attack. It's really all they know. It will be another pasting.
I have my own tv channel, what have you got?

Stade Rochelais play a very open game of rugby, they are vulnerable to any side who can face up to the power their pack obviously has, yet they never fired a shot away to Wasps.

I have no doubt Ulster can put out a side to win this but I do doubt Kiss will pick it.

And to add to this joyous occasion that has knickers wringing all over the land, it’ll be bloody pints of Murphys!

Well, it's a European Cup game this Saturday so the Onesies are washed and the facepaint is ready for what will hopefully be a memorable DAY 4011, Lest We Forget.

Remind me. When did we last see Windy make a break at Ravenhill?
