Rugby World Cup winner Stephen Donald has admitted he's currently unemployed. But it doesn't seem like it will last for long.
The 2011 Rugby World Cup hero has told Martin Devlin on Radio Sport's Devlin Radio Show that he's got a few offers to consider following his final game for the Chiefs last month.
"The body's in great nick. I want to carry on playing. I'm loving my rugby more than ever. I can honestly sit here and say that I'm unemployed right now. I haven't signed anything, I'm trying to sort something out in the next few days," Donald told Devlin.
"I've got offers. Some are overseas, some are local. It's just a matter of weighing it up over the next few days."
Donald famously was a late injury call-up to the All Blacks' squad for the 2011 Rugby World Cup following injuries to first five-eighths Dan Carter and Colin Slade.
When Aaron Cruden suffered a knee injury in the final against France, Donald replaced him and kicked a penalty which eventually was the winning points of the final.
Donald released a biography today titled Beaver.

Stephen Donald has not signed for Ulster
So, no signature from Stephen Donald:

No date on when the interview was given to the radio station, so in theory Ulster could have been one of the offers on the table, which may have been accepted and signed.
Although knowing the way Ulster work we've probably signed Luke Donald.

Re: Stephen Donald has not signed for Ulster
Would be a perfect signing this late in the game and has been playing pretty well this season. Still would have no scrum half to give him the ball though, or a pack to get the scrum half the ball...
Climb up onto the top of your house and start screaming: 'stand up for the Ulstermen, stand.......'

The interview was posted on NewsNow Rugby about 4 minutes before I posted it today/last bloody night. It showed 11.22 am NZ time. The second such interview by Donald in the last 2 days as he flogs his booked and advertises his availability.colind wrote:No date on when the interview was given to the radio station, so in theory Ulster could have been one of the offers on the table, which may have been accepted and signed.

A further snippet is that he is getting married in January which was probably good planning in NZ but a bloody nuisance in UK and who knows, maybe the cause of what we generally believe here to be a delayed announcement.
I still hope he is the man, can't see any other acceptable candidates.

He's probably looking a 2 year deal. We may only be offering one year with the caveat if our main guy comes back you will be on the pine. Not very enticing for your last decent contract.

Always ask yourself, "What would Big Rodney do"... And every time the answer is... "Eat It"
Re: Stephen Donald has not signed for Ulster
I get the feeling that Logie hasn't signed anyone but hoped to have signed someone by now. Hence the 'sooner rather than later' misinformation.
I have my own tv channel, what have you got?

Highly plausible Dave. There has been too much normally reliable source info on this for it to be baseless.Dave wrote:I get the feeling that Logie hasn't signed anyone but hoped to have signed someone by now. Hence the 'sooner rather than later' misinformation.
Player could be holding out to squeeze the most he can get out of the deal.
One thing we do know is that there is greater urgency on our side of the table and that give the player a better hand.

Spotted Niall O'Connor at the airport this morning getting collected by Bryn.

The problem in trying to sign someone as I see it is ---
For how long.
6 months - two years - 10 years
A six month contract lacks any appeal to an outhalf worthy of consideration .
