Re: 2017/18 Your Ulster Expectations
As the new season approaches and most supporters appear to be pragmatic re the challenges ahead I would like to see clear evidence of the following (in no particular order)-
~ Youth given extended Pro 14 game time (bite the bullet)
~ Clear & consistent coaching strategy / game plan
~ Evidence of cohesion between playing & coaching staff
~ 100% commitment to the shirt no matter how bad things might get at times
Realistically I expect mid table Pro 14 & challenge for 2nd in Euro.
We need to step up to the challenge set down by IRFU & trust / develop the ability of our Ulster youngsters as its realistically our only out over the next 5-10 years.

Re: 2017/18 Your Ulster Expectations
Mid table of a seven team conference is a depressingly real prospect. Do we think we are better than the Scarlets, Leinster or the Cheetahs (ok I'll stop pretending they're shyte)? Last season we beat Scarlets and Leinster, in a dead rubber. So it will be tight. Cheetahs will have a tough time with the fixtures on the road. The FIRFU, however, have contrived to hand them an easy away win. With our away form, it could be a long season figuratively but short in reality.
If things go Pete Tong, a saving grace might be a small enough reshuffle. Les finally fcuks off and Jono gets to do his job as head coach. Then Logie fires up the radar for a top class defence coach.

Re: 2017/18 Your Ulster Expectations
What do I want from Ulster:
- some attempt to play rugby with the ball, not without it
- some attempt to play multi-phase rugby; not first and second phase strike moves that go nowhere once the planning is gone
- some consistency in performances; not great one week, gash the next; even middling consistency would be better than what we saw last season
- some consistency in selection; particularly in determining and sticking with combinations that work
- consistency in the positions players are chosen to play
- some attempt to improve first up defending
- RESTARTS!
What do I expect from Ulster:
- vast variations in quality week-to-week
- senseless variations in lineup changes
- selection of reputation over form
- players selected out of position for no reason
- generally underwhelming season
- effectively out of Europe after three games
- no knock-out rugby
- a new head coach at some point in the season (probably too late) when the pressure from all of the above adds up

Totally agree Neil re consistency in performances. Especially away from home were sadly I feel that we are seen as a soft touch.
The variation in performance between Edinburgh away & Clermont at home last season was staggering even accepting the squad profiles.

A shitefest, just another wasted season. No thanks to FOLK, Jackson or Olding and let's not forget that wänkstain Nucifùckingfora who has killed us stone dead.
NEVER MOVE ON. Years on, I cannot ever watch Ireland with anything but indifference, I continue to wish for the imminent death of Donal Spring, the FIRFUC's executioner of Wee Paddy & Wee Stu, and I hate the FIRFUCs with undiminished passion.

Re: 2017/18 Your Ulster Expectations
Want to see Marcel lifting the standards of the players around him and taking them with him.
His game is built on quick reactions and fast line speed in both defence and attack.
Few back row players can bounce off the floor and get back into the game after a carry or tackle quite like him.
He's got a lot to prove both here and back home, with Whiteley, Kolisi, Kriel, Cassiem, Du Preez part of the new scene SA back row.
Deysel's tight carrying should free Marcel to play the speed runner at the side of the ruck. If Deysel shortens his carries & looks for offloads, even better.

Re: 2017/18 Your Ulster Expectations
Hopefully we will be able to muddle through November with Kings (Away) and Benetton (Home), but even still doing this without our Irish international contingent, and a decent injury list who knows..... I then see a massive problem..... I'm predicting we could go the entire months of December and January without a win / one win.
Dragons (Away) 1/12/17
Yes the Dragons are mud but we always struggle to beat them at Rodney Parade.
Don't see us beating anyone away from home.
Harlequins (Away) 10/12/17
As above do not see us beating anyone away from home.
Harlequins (Home) 15/12/17
Should win this but not a given, after getting pasted at The Stoop the week before. Five day turnaround. Only potential win.
Connacht (Away) 23/12/17
Struggled to put them away at home, they showed they are regaining form beating a handy Munster team at the weekend. At the Sportsground they'll be formidable..
Munster (Home) 01/12/17
Beat us home and away last season.
Leinster (Away) 06/01/17
Massacre
La Rochelle (Home) 13/01/17
Potential for a massacre, La Rochelle chasing a home quarter final.
Wasps (Away) 20/01/17
Wasps potentially chasing for the pool with ourselves well and truly out of it.
Anyone throw any sunshine on this?
