If Les Kiss would let somebody else, who has some degree of tactical knowledge and common sense, pick the team, we'd be in a better place. It seems he's still rotating the players when we simply need to put out our strongest team every match. I suspect the players have to be introduced to each other before each game.

And I'm not offering my services ... they couldn't afford me and I'm not from Lisburn.

They're wrong about Ulster's destiny no longer being in their own hands.

3 wins and deny Sprays a BP and they're guaranteed Top 4. Wee buns

Maybe Olding is just overrated? He's been gash all season and we can no longer put it down to injury disruption imo.
Luke MOM? Joke time. Every ounce of potential has been drained out of these 2 guys.
I did say we'd struggle against Cardiff weeks ago, and as correctly pointed out here, LK's bizarre selection policies made it inevitable. Thank our lucky stars Warbuton went off, cos he turned up once, otherwise we'd be looking at a loss.
Id like to see any of DC, LL, JP, Stockers, even CP start in centre over SO and LM atm.

Timoney looked very nervous in warm up, but at least looked more physical than Joyce although that's not saying much.

We don't deserve top 4, but its a sad legacy for RP, RW and increasingly Rory.
Like a past it porn star, too much filler

Truth is Leinster are a try a game better than every other team with the best back row in the Pro 12 and Munster have the second best when Stander and PoM play the real difference between the two is the back line .

Ulster' problem is the back row the front 5 hold their own and the back line has lacked a consistency in selection due to injury which has resulted in an iffy defence at times and a less than sure attack .

To be totally honest Ulster if a consistent backline And the back row that should have played if available would a good 3rd best but with the injuries we were never going to be consistent or dominate enough to be better than 4-5 in the Pro 12

I think you are being harsh on our backline and backrow. Our tight 5 are just as gash.

Against the front five hold their own but don't dominate . For a pack to dominate you really need a back row .

Few teams have minced Ulster's scrum or line out but the pack is weak in the loose which is where a back row which can dominate really makes the difference and why Leinster and Munster are 7 + points clear of the 3 -4-5 . in the league .

Look at the high tackle on Piatau in the background of that picture. He doesn’t even have the ball. How many of those did that little Welsh rat let Cardiff away with on Friday night? I'd like to see someone do a Pat Lamb and let fly on camera about the performance of some of the officials.

Other than that, Luke Marshall is lacking in the mental department, Olding is wasted at 12 and his defence is too suspect there, Roger Wilson makes Clive Ross look good, and Henderson’s days as a 6 are over. He's more effective in the 2nd row now.

Does anyone else think Gibbs has been brought in with an eye to shunting Les upstairs if we arent in Europe by Christmas? He certainly made a big deal about the head coach thing. Am I just clutching at straws? I'm starting to look back on the Anscombe era with some affection now.

BSC -- Oldings defence is suspect because there is no back row on Friday night Ulster were playing" 50 minute one pace Rodger" and a one pace ball wrestler ( Henderson) in the back row when what was needed to mark their centres was a pacy tackling back row with the ability to get over the ball and/ or clear their foragers off it. When Olding went on a rush a simple side step was enough to dislodge the tackle but the fact is there was no support, nothing in front, nothing beside ,nothing behind the opposition had only one man to watch and one man to beat whose intentions were telegraphed .

All the opposition had to do was ensure that Reidy and another back row were held /blocked to make the centres task easier.

Watch the leinster back row the leinster centres are seldom left one on one

As opposed to Rogers 50 min stints I note that the pre injured Botha was averaging 50 odd mins a game last season.. So it's like getting an updated version.. Plus he only ever scored two tries if not mistaken so don't expect too much in that department but then again I supposed he taking a step down in levels...

That's excellent observation rum.
Sides are supposed to work in threes so each player has a responsibility for the player either side of him.
The obvious exception being the wide men.
Therefore most coaches can almost accept being scored against wide out if an oppositon works the space well but will NEVER accept scores through the middle.

Ulster defend in ones and twos as rum says leaving defenders like Olding exposed one on one.
You can put in any defensive system you like but if you ignore basic principles it's for nothing.

Our defence out wide was actually quite good on friday I thought. CP missed one impossible tackle when they scored under the posts, having danced round our entire midfield and had a one on one with him as he was steaming across from the wing- easy inside step. Gilly tackled well for someone Joe says can't tackle.
