Ferris as a pundit (funny feeling there was a thread on it b
Interested to hear opinions of Ferris as a pundit.
I thought it would be breathe of fresh air to have Ferris on the tv providing technical analysis from a guy who has just left the modern game but all we seem to get is 'blood, sweat and tears' ........... not forgetting 'heart'
Murray Kinsella (the 42) shows the intricacies of the game whether it's at break down, lineout, running lines, patterns, kicking etc. For anyone who hasn't come across him, it worth reading his articles and watching his short programmes.

1F isn't much of an analyst. He's too close to the team and struggles to be objective. He also seems obsessed with bosh. Admittedly it is something that's been missing since Nick Williams departed.

Murray Kinsella is fantastic and likely the best in Ireland in my opinion but he takes a lot more time than a match to prepare his articles.
The BBC dont really have the fancy kit like Sky do either like the touchscreens with their pointy arrows.

Ferris is more of fan giving his view than a pundit.
I have my own tv channel, what have you got?

Agreed to an extent. It's shouldn't be difficult to pick up on some of the intricacies and tactics that are being deployed by either team after 40mins. I'm sick of hearing 'heart' and 'attitude'.damianmcr wrote:Murray Kinsella is fantastic and likely the best in Ireland in my opinion but he takes a lot more time than a match to prepare his articles.

Even our pundits are woeful compared to Leinsters
How many years before we can produce a pundit to the level of Murray Kinsella.

I feel like Mark McCall would be a good pundit if his voice wasn't so boring.UlsterNo9 wrote:Even our pundits are woeful compared to Leinsters

You haven't seen me at my best yet. Let's be honest, you probably never will.

Absolutely Kinsella is excellent. Mind you, in fairness to Stevie (with whom some may have noticed I thought spoke utter puerile ballix last weekend) he is basically a well known fan, whereas Kinsella is a journalist specialising more or less exclusively on rugby.
He clearly has excellent facilities at his disposal too, to create GIFS (think that is what they are called) to illustrate his points & can produce maybe 4/6 of them in an analysis of a move. Of course occasionally you might think he is over egging a players part in moves but very very occasionally, I find him the best of the analysts by a distance, though unlike Stevie who is responding to the programme host, Kinsella has days at his disposal to pour over the action.
Stevie is being paid to be the Ulster fan by BBC NI & SKY, it's really not a million miles away from what RTE got from Hook, though I always thought that behind the bluster, Hook knew a thing or two.
NEVER MOVE ON. Years on, I cannot ever watch Ireland with anything but indifference, I continue to wish for the imminent death of Donal Spring, the FIRFUC's executioner of Wee Paddy & Wee Stu, and I hate the FIRFUCs with undiminished passion.

Would like to see Malone on doing analysis just to see how tom kite he really is.... Ferris is becoming a bit one dimensional but as stated he doesn't have access to the Sky tech stuff that can even make a tom kite analysist look good with all the work done behind the scenes.....
Currently studying Stage 5 (level3) at IRFU

It is deja vu with the lacking physicality remarks etc....however to be fair, it is a reoccurring issue, and therefore accurate fair comment, if uninspiring. A couple of times he has gone into technical issues, re multi phase carrying/lines etc....and personally I think he'd "lose" most watchers, unless they were experienced rugby players.....maybe the production staff have said - don't get too technical for the viewers. Essentially he is the Ulster fan soundbite.....with 30 seconds or so to give a flavour of how things are going.
Yep he's close to the Ulster squad still, prob more so than Quinlan with Munster.
I found v interesting his remarks re the Leinster game (academy systems etc and player production).....with the academy investment which he stated was substantial by Ulster and they were waiting for the rewards coming through. Personally in terms of match analysis I enjoy EOS...his critique of Ulster in the Munster game was v interesting....didn't pull any punches and Hinted at issues re coaching etc as the players weren't appearing to play with clear heads and continually making same mistakes whenever he's seen them play....and he prob weren't too far off the mark.
I like kinsella good articles, good with his podcasts with the experts etc, how it is far different than a pitch side 30 second soundbite that Ferris gets. Shame there isn't a midweek 30min program review of previous weeks match etc. Personally I'd prefer that than watching a blog on Ulster rugby selling their latest sponsors product. Problem is there is 5 Mins post game to discuss then the programs over.

I blame it all on the punditry academy.
Never wrestle with a pig. You end up covered in muck and the pig loves it.

The new IRB safety directive is demanding that we introduce non-pointy arrows, before someone else loses an eye.damianmcr wrote:Murray Kinsella is fantastic and likely the best in Ireland in my opinion but he takes a lot more time than a match to prepare his articles.

Nobody should be remotely surprised that 1F demands blood and guts from his beloved Ulster. That's what he gave to the cause on every single occasion. Power, speed and aggression were the hallmarks of his approach then, so he remains consistent in demanding that they bring what he brought.

He is a paid media pundit, no different to Hook or Jones, So . Fûck up and move on. STevie says it as it is, if Barnes or Kinsella said the same would Kiss have quoted him, no he féckin would not have.
