UAFC Ask the Opposition - Edinburgh

Post by Loki »

after a hefty dose of doom and gloom last week it's back to the 'Hill(Span) for the visit of Edinburgh. standard Ask the Oppo drill - questions will be collected here and taken to the Edinburgh forum on Wednesday evening. :D

it's been the usual mixed bag from Edinburgh so far this season - their impressive away win in Thomond Park already looks to have lost its lustre following a home loss to Connacht and a 49-point chastening at the hands of the Ospreys. former Ulster coach Alan Solomons will again have it all to do to keep Edinburgh competitive throughout the season.

any thoughts / feedback on the ATO format are always appreciated - thinking of a possible podcast later in the year. if anyone has any (sensible) contributions fire away! :fleg:

What are your opinions on Murrayfield as your home ground? If it was your decision, where would you like to play?

Thoughts on the relative success of Glasgow compared to Edinburgh over the last couple of seasons?

Edinburgh have averaged 4,000 or so for Pro12 home gates for the last 6 years. What do you think are the chances of growing support beyond this?

What do you think about the influx of South Africans into the squad and the apparent lack of opportunity afforded to homegrown players?

Do you think the Pro12 is the best deal in town for Scottish rugby? If not, what is the better option and would you pursue it?

Also, there has been loose talk around a 3rd team in Aberdeen - do you think this would be sustainable and/or worthwhile?

Similar to Mike.

Even with a healthy crowd is the practically empty stadium (not meant as a dig, just fact) more of a hindrance to the team and supporters, would you prefer a smaller stadium were 4000+ fans could create more of a noise.

Where they to move edinburgh to a smaller stadium, and use murrayfield for the larger events (glasgow versus edinburgh, european cup quarters / semis) much like the Aviva and RDS with Leinster, would you be in support of this? Further to this, is the new semi synthetic pitch something that you feel will increase support and start fill Murrayfield? (which isn't an insult, more an observation that there is no teams outside of France with such stadiums being filled currently)

P.S. I realise people have all posted this same question :duh: so I'll shoot for another as well.
Where do they feel their strengths and weaknesses lie within the team, and what aspects of their game do they feel are currently top notch and what needs worked on or their players developed in?
Payne to play 13 for Leinster or 15 for Ulster

Being realistic about Murrayfield even a 20 k crowd would still look empty

By the way, I think there is feck all chance of Edinburgh moving out of Murrayfield given the SRU won't want to pay anyone else for a ground and they have also taken BT's shekels to call it the BT Sport Murrayfield or something like that but interested to hear the Embra fans take on it.

Do you rate John Andress as a tighthead, or is it too early to say?
