Re: Chris Henry
Have to agree that this guy was an Ulster legend. Fair play to McGlock for persisting with the idea of converting him to a 7 when many thought he was going down the wrong path. At his peak he was absolutely outstanding there, not just for Ulster (he was close to MOTM at Thomond in the big Heiny win and his absence for the semi showed how valuable he was) but also for Ireland - i seem to recall him playing a key role in a championship win under Jo around 2014/2015.
A true Ulsterman and very nice guy off the pitch as well. Up there with AAT as guys who always gave 100%.
His open letter says everything about the man

Maybe he needs to take some time to think this through.big mervyn wrote:He was talking about being an air traffic controller, ...

Re: Chris Henry
Always a bit sad if someone has to retire early, good luck to him
Re: Chris Henry
I won't call 34 early -- just a wise call -- injuries take longer to mend -- you lack the pace you once had and the game loses its appeal , by announcing his retirement now -- I assume he has a job offer lined up .
Given the 3 retirements recently announced and the possible expenditures saved one might assume that Ulster have now a sizeable kitty available to absorb a big name or two after the world cup.

Within this carapace of skepticism there lives an optimist

Yep. A LH, Lock and 6/8 backrower. But knowing UR will get a marquee back three to play in the centre and a crippled farmer of non-descriptive foward!rumncoke wrote:I won't call 34 early -- just a wise call -- injuries take longer to mend -- you lack the pace you once had and the game loses its appeal , by announcing his retirement now -- I assume he has a job offer lined up .

Chad was never a galactico but, when fully fit, always one of the first names on the team sheet. Always gave 100%. Anyone got any idea what his future plans are?
Re: Chris Henry
Chris Henry made a huge contribution to Irish rugby as well as Ulster. His part in the 2014 Six Nations championship won't be forgotten.
He is right to get out now and look after his health. May he have a long and happy life and continue to play a part in rugby.

Oh, for a pack of Chris Henrys right now.
Re: Chris Henry
A top, top bloke and a true Ulster servant.
Bit surprised to see this today but can't blame him, especially with his previous health issues. He has the opportunity to get out healthy and can look forward to the birth of his first little one before Christmas.
What a cracking open letter too, a mark of the man indeed.
My very best wishes to him and his family.

Best of luck Chad. The fact he even returned to rugby after his heart surgery was commendable. Lovely guy and wish him the best. We miss his doggedness at the breakdown!
