Injury Update

Re: Injury Update
So many questions but no answers! Can anybody help?
From the rolling glens of Antrim through the hills of Donegal we will stand and shout for Ulster as we win both scrum and maul from the lovely lakes of Fermanagh tae the shores of ould Lough Gall we will scream and shout for Ulster as we beat them one and all!
Re: Injury Update
I suppose we can expect an enlarged squad announcement in the next day or two for Saturdays game. Its unlikely to suggest what the fitness of the Ireland players is though as they'll just be listed as being rested. I understand Ferris only did captains runs for the last two weeks. Kidder better not have crocked him, especially when he could have shared the game with SOB this week

Looked bad. Probably not.gannonman wrote:What about McComish? Was the injury as serious as it looked on the pitch? Heard he broke a cheekbone or something.
Looks like we'll have a full squad for Easter Sunday. Ireland players (bar Court possibly) won't take this part this week.
You haven't seen me at my best yet. Let's be honest, you probably never will.
Re: Injury Update
Ulster are being very quiet on the injuries. Theres a press conference tomorrow. I'm told that Muller and Cave likely to be included for this weekends squad but not Pedrie...
You've got to get your first tackle in early, even if it's late.
Re: Injury Update
Ithryn, interested to know why he's out for eight weeks for concussion? Cheers.

I believe there is set rules for time on the sidelines if you get knocked out in rugby, is there not. Is that not why medics are always trying to treat players on the pitch rather that take them of as there is mandatory rest periods if players are concussed. It was a nasty looking collision.
Why? Why not?
Re: Injury Update
I thought the advice was 3 weeks unless cleared by relevant medical opinion earlier.Ithryn wrote:I believe there is set rules for time on the sidelines if you get knocked out in rugby, is there not. I would have thought that if an 8 week layoff was being advised by medics that they must have seen something to give them considerable concern.

Re: Injury Update
There are very recent guidelines out from the IRB but things changed for pro players a few years ago. They are all tested for brain function per-season. If they get a concussion they must have a period of total rest until their physical symptoms, like headache, have totally settled. Then they must wait until they score as well or better than the pre-season testing. Only then can they enter a staged process of at least five days leading to a return to play. So there is no fixed period, apart from the five day bit. It is all pretty scientific now and tailored towards the welfare of individuals rather than just being an arbittrary period that may not be adequate.

Re: Injury Update
i asked the paramedic after the match about mccomish.
said he'd maybe fractured a cheekbone or something
it's possible (although i havent heard anything stating the exact nature of his injury) that he has a cheekbone or eyesocket or something else that's been damaged, as well as him seeing stars

Left hand, right hand, it doesn't matter. I'm amphibious.

Re: Injury Update
Don't forget the tetanus also. Players who do this kind of thing should have the book thrown at them. I would feel exactly the same if an Ulster player did it.DavyG wrote:Will probably need to have a rabies injection.Jackie Brown wrote:What about Ferris' finger?
