Re: Squad depth 2024/25

Unfortunately there is a lack of beef at lock -- lots of mobility-- no beef and the front row aren't the biggest either thus the scrum set piece is under pressure and our defence walks backwards.

Re: Ulster v Leinster Saturday May 18 7:35pm TG4 / Premier Sports (UK) 1 / Premier Sports (Ireland) 1 / Super Sport / UR

When you look at the number of Caps for leinster the players have, especially the forwards that is not a inexperienced side. The inexperience is in playing together as a pack but nobody is playing out of position each and everyone of the knows exactly the role he has to play. The game is by no means...

Books seem to think it may be leinster front line reserves I think that could well be Cullens call , the second string front 8 with the first choice forwards on the bench to play 15 -20 minutes with last weeks backline starting and the like of Ringrose etc on the bench. Ulster side the same as last ...

Re: Scarlets v Ulster Saturday May 11 3:05pm KO Premier Sports UK 1 / Premier Sports Ireland 2 / Super Sport / URC TV

Dave a goal line kick the number one priority is touch usually the angle is such that length is not possible . A long kick from the goal line which fails to get touch is highly dangerous because without a proper follow up chasers can be easily beaten by the receiver and a running return is at pace a...

Re: Scarlets v Ulster Saturday May 11 3:05pm KO Premier Sports UK 1 / Premier Sports Ireland 2 / Super Sport / URC TV

Dave box kicks are not meant to be long at best the kick should be 50/50 especially against a team like the scarlets who are dangerous on a counter ball in hand . Any long kick should be into space finishing close to the touch line . But most teams play a deep back three long kicking is no longer a ...

It's an interesting selection which suggests O Connor is basically seen as a 60 minute pack leader and the game seen as one were forward domination is necessary My only query is the continued selection of McIlroy on the wing which indicates a dire lack of wings at present . would have preferred Lowr...

Re: TRANSFER RUMOURS!!

Deegan is not necessary to Ulster With two Wards and McCann plus others in the back row he would be a back row to many he need an Out half of quality and a couple more wings because 5 try McIlroy is not a winger

Re: Ulster v Cardiff Friday April 19, 7:35pm - BBC2 NI / BBC2 Wales / TG4 / Premier Sports (UK) 2 / Premier Sports (Irel

Jones provides a possible jumper if necessary and the alternative back rows won't feature frequently in 2 years time anyway. Basically Murhpy has to see what he has and what he can dump and what he needs to make the team competitive in 2 years . With so many flying the coup this year I don't expect ...

Re: Clermont v Ulster, Saturday April 13 12:30pm (UK Time) TNT Sports - Actual Channel TBC

The first half Ulster didn’t look that outclassed but losing Moore early did nothing for the backs and in MHO McIlroy is not an option on the wing Lowry should have stayed on the wing where his pace over 10 metres might have open up the Clermont backline McIlroy should have gone to full back. The su...

4 away games was 1 too
many with the injuries to too many players when the chase got to too much the heart was not there to contend with a team gone rampant

Stockdale was listed as injured mid week ?

Interesting selection AoC 50 minutes then Sheridan to second row. as it will be less demanding than back row for the last 30 .

Re: Montpellier v Ulster, Sunday April 7 12:30pm KO (UK Time), Viaplay Sports

It depends on who is on the panel and some other factors ie Montpellier are on a survival course at present --and if the second half performance without him is anything to go by may not make it.

He is just a big guy who acts without thinking and his team pay for it.

Re: Luke retiring at the end of the season

To brave for his own good in his early days and had some bad injuries which took toll of his pace and cost him many Irish caps forwards make it past 30 easier than backs and training for a seat on the bench loses its appeal quickly . Enjoy the future but watch the calories!!!

Re: Montpellier v Ulster, Sunday April 7 12:30pm KO (UK Time), Viaplay Sports

Justin Cooney’s tackle was high it was the tackle by ToT which was a harsh call My point is basically that a referee and his known disposition can effect how a team play and players performance and imo Ulster were trying to play within that frame work although Cooney was getting a little frustrated ...
