Match Report: Benetton Rugby Treviso 11-22 Ulster Rugby

Ulster will be kicking themselves after failing to pick up a bonus point in their 22-11 win over Benetton Treviso at the Stadio di Monigo.

They had the chances, but ultimately they made too many errors and had to settle for a three try victory courtesy of Luke Marshall, Rob Herring and Ruan Pienaar.

Rob Herring and Stuart Olding's yellow cards hindered the Ulstermen in the latter stages of the game as Treviso, who had Filo Paulo sin binned, prevented them from scoring that all important fourth try.

The game started brilliantly for Ulster as the they won the opening kick off and proceeded to attack the Treviso line with fervour, eventually leading to Luke Marshall scrambling over after several phases.

Pienaar converted, but after such a bright start things began to unravel for the Ulstermen as their hosts slowly grew into the game.

Allan surprisingly missed his first shot at goal just after the quarter hour mark, but Treviso looked the more dangerous side in the middle of the first half and they could have tied the game however Jayden Hayward found himself held up over the line.

Allan did land his first penalty of the game shortly after that, but that was immediately negated by Pienaar's first penalty of the evening almost straight after the restart.

But back came the Leoni and, after Andrea Buondonno missed a long range effort at goal, Allan slotted over his second of the game to reduce the gap to four.

Pienaar had a chance to restore the seven point lead on the stroke of half time, but his penalty from halfway struck the post and rebounded away.

After the break it looked like Ulster's error strewn performance would continue into the second half, with Les Kiss' men struggling to put together any meaningful possession.

However, when former Ulster lock Filo Paulo saw yellow for a late tackle, it swung the momentum in the visitors' favour, allowing them to rumble a maul over in the 53rd minute thanks to their man advantage.

Captain Herring took the plaudits for that one, but their third try was an excellent team move as great hands from Louis Ludik and Jacob Stockdale sent Pienaar under the posts just before the hour mark.

It looked like the fourth, and bonus point, try was now nothing more than a formality, but with Paulo restored to the pitch Treviso were able to hold out as Ulster pressed for the key score.

In the end it never came, with Herring's yellow for repeated offences in the 67th minute a large contributor to that, as the hosts held out for the final ten minutes.

And they had the last laugh, bravely holding out one final Ulster assault before breaking away themselves and scoring the final try of the game when Marco Barbini caught Ian McKinley's cross field kick and dotted down.
