Ulster have moved to improve their long-term planning at fly-half by announcing the signing of Brett Herron from Bath and that Ireland U20 fly-half Johnny McPhillips has been upgraded to a development contract.

Herron, a product of prestigious rugby school Wellington College, made his debut for Bath United in 2014 and was marked as one of their most promising talents. The Irish-qualified 20-year old has also featured for the England U18 side.

Ulster Rugby have released an injury update following their Guinness PRO12 defeat to Glasgow Warriors, with all three of the province’s internationals being able to return to action this weekend against Connacht.

Rory Best, Andrew Trimble and Jared Payne will all be available for selection for Friday’s game having missed out against Glasgow with minor injuries.

Ian Humphreys to retire at the end of the season

Ulster Rugby fly-half Ian Humphreys has confirmed today that he will retire from rugby at the end of the season.

The 33-year old, who turns 34 next month, made his debut for his province against the Newport-Gwent Dragons back in 2008 and has gone on to make 113 appearances for Ulster, scoring 745 points in that time.

He made his 100th appearance for Ulster last season against the Scarlets at the Kingspan Stadium and has featured eight times this season under Les Kiss.

Luke Marshall signs new deal with Ulster

Ulster Rugby have announced that Ireland international Luke Marshall has signed a new two-year deal to keep him in Belfast until the summer of 2018.

Marshall, who turns 25 tomorrow, has found himself in some fantastic form, scoring five tries in 14 appearances for Ulster this season and earned a call-up to the Ireland Six Nations squad.

Ulster Rugby have released an injury update after their 23-13 defeat to the Cardiff Blues at the weekend, however it is good news as both Tommy Bowe and Iain Henderson are expected to be back before the end of the season.

Ulster Rugby have confirmed that flanker Sean Reidy and tighthead prop Ricky Lutton have signed new contract extensions with the province.

Reidy, 26, has agreed to stay with Ulster for another two years while 29-year old Lutton has signed on for another year.

Reidy joined the province on what was initially a short-term deal prior to the 2014/15 season from Counties Manukau in New Zealand, and despite only making eight appearances he earned an extension to his contract in Belfast.
